Too bad bison is so expensive. It makes great burgers, and so low in fat.
Yesterday, I had the best burger I've had in awhile at B&G Burgers. Blue cheese and bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo and ketchup.

I see some folks mentioning bison. I've wanted to try it. Is it good? Not gamey?

Nan, if you have a Ted's Montana Grill near you (I know that there are some locations in Illinois), you should try it there -- it's AWESOME!

I wouldn't even know that it wasn't beef, except that it's a bit sweeter, and MUCH lower in fat.

Not mayo. Anything else.

There is nothing more disgusting than hot mayo. Plus, there is already enough fat in the hamburger, why would you want to slather a bunch of whipped soybean oil and egg paste on top?

Usually catsup, mustard, and relish and a little bit of onion.

Although at times I like to add the lettuce and tomato, switch out catsup for barbque sauce, sometimes use the flat bread and butter pickle instead of the relish, and a slice of the sweet Vidalia onion. Maybe even a scant amount of that horseradish sauce for a bit of zing.

Lettuce, tomato, mayo, sometimes with a slice of onion

Pickles and ketchup

Cheeseburger with pickles and ketchup

Cheeseburger with pickles and yellow mustard

Cheeseburger with ground hot peppers

This summer I made a cheeseburger topped with a 3/4" thick slice of big backyard tomato with a little s&p . It was amazing
