It's funny how some of these restaurants are still doing well in certain areas of the country.
We have Hardee's here, doing pretty well I think, good fast food burgers. Also have a Chevy's (replaced Rio Bravo) and Pizza Inn.
Boston Market is gone from here, so is Bonanza and Golden Corral. Never heard of Sambo's and I've never even heard that used a derogatory term. Old Chicago is hanging around but I imagine they won't last long. I've never been to a Chili's but I think that's pretty much a ghost town here. I'm not a real fan of the mid-range "faux sit-down" places...tastes like frozen microwaved food (ala Applebees, which I could see closing down eventually).

It is funny.....Golden Corral is going strong here, with several brand new locations being built and opening to much fanfare over the past two years.
Our Chevys are gone, nearly all Boston Markets are gone but we still have a Bonanza or two and several PondeBullBoxer31.
I miss Ponderosa. They had the best buffet, we used to go when I was around 9 years old. They had really good little chicken nuggets.
Times change. There is a Ponderosa still functioning near where I work a lot(I travel for work). The steak I had, I am positive it was microwaved and was probably old shoe leather out of a box. The place looks like it is from 1979 and is a dump. Never ate there again.
I remember Ponderosa was a good chain back when I was a kid in the 1980's but those times are long gone.

The Ponderosa locations here have been remodeled and updated. The menu has been updated, too, and there are lots of fresh and healthy items on the menu and the bar.
Yep. You can buy Chi-Chi's salsa in the store, but it's not really Chi-Chi's salsa. I read that Hormel bought the rights to use Chi-Chi's name/logo, but not their recipes. So though it says Chi-Chi's, it's not.
I always got a kick out of that name. Hey honey got some chi chi's. LOL
Tony Roma's ribs was the best. We had one on LI in Valley Stream. We would get Tony Roma's once a week. They had a fried onion loaf that was really good. When I went on my honeymoon to San Francisco in 2005 we ate in a Tony Roma's because my husband had never been there. It was still as good as I rememberd it.

Sambo is from way, way back. it was exceptionally popular in So California. The Sambos story was a darling one and most of us never took it as racial in anyway. but it became politically incorrect, it appeared to bbe making fun of black children and I don't know if there were any law suits, but there sure was a lot of negative publicity. In retrospect, I do understand the concerns but at the time many of us just didn't understand.
Comment on Sambo the story book- that little boy was smarter and braver than me- saved everyone from the tiger and had golden butter for his pancakes- too bad everyone has to grow up.
I used to be taken to a steak house chain in the 70s/ 80s called Blue Drummer, there was one acrossed the streety called Drummer Boy that's specialized in chicken. Both were pretty good as far as food went although the menus were limited. I;d eat there again today if they were still around.
I just thought of more that used to be in my area.
Pioneer Chicken
Tony Roma's
Boston Market (the one near me became a Chick-Fil-A)
Victoria Station
La Petite Boulangerie
Velvet Turtle
I could also remember Godfather's Pizza in my area, but they didn't last long.
