I just told my DH the same thing elston...never had "fresh" lima beans but I do love dried, frozen and canned. I'll bet fresh would be wonderful. Where can a person get them? I've never seen them at the grocery stores..or I haven't noticed them.

You will most likely have to grow them. I've been trying to get some from a local produce stand that buys from farmers and so far have found none. They are labor intensive to harvest. I imagine they would bring 30 dollars a hamper now at the market. Here is a link with photos:

I do take it back.....my Dad used to put in a short row of lima beans in his garden. That was many years ago......if I remember they were sorta a leggy plant.

Nope. It's funny. DH doesn't like them, either. It's almost the only veggie neither one of us will eat. Where were we? We went out and ate the other day and, somehow, there was a lima bean in some rice I ate. Even after all these years, I still don't like them! I used to pick them out of the canned veg. beef soup Mom would give us. Oh, yeh - it was the day we ate at the KFC buffet. Ick.

The oldtimers are not around these days that plant them for the upick places around my parts.
We were just talking about this yesterday. My mother made me a lima hater. But one year in NJ I bought fresh from a farmstand and they were delicious. I love lima bean soup, or limas and ham.

If the grocery store today is any indication of what next week will be like-WOW!!! Our normally quiet store was packed. All I have to get next week is celery, potatoes, frozen pearl onions.

I'm with you sister.. that chalky texture.. shudder.

I've had them in frozen succotash as a kid, and sometimes you find them in mexican rice which would come from a can of mixed vegetables.

I'm willing to try them fresh if noma comes over and cooks them for me, but otherwise, limas, listen up! It's a no-go!!!

skbs: Juan, from the Casa Marina in Key West has been trying to contact you. He has a lounge chair reserved for you facing the ocean at the Gulf of Mexico , 90 miles from Cuba. A Pina Colada with Meyer's Rum floating on top next to the little Palm tree in your glass. Nicholas Sparks new book is sitting right next to your jumbo gulf shrimp cocktail on the table.
Busy with lots of ironing today (table cloths etc. for the holiday). I will check back back with you all later as far as our dinner, not sure right at this moment. Have a great afternoon, the iron is calling my name.
At second thought skbs count me in on those reservations too please.
