Morning all and looks like good eats were had by all.

JimJ I've been making Julia's potato leek for years and it's easy and so good.

We're under a winter storm warning for tomorrow-so off to the store to load up on veggies for the beef veg soup. Thinking leeks, parsnips, cabbage, carrots, celery, mushrooms-barley if I can find it here if not I have orzo. Crusty breads and we're set and in for another snowy weekend.

Driveway was nice and cleaned but heavy winds have reloaded the snow right where we don't want it. 21 below right now.

I don't think I'd mind being snowed in with you cooking lacey!! That sounds so good! I've only made bean soups so far but hopefully the other kinds of soups will become some of my regulars too. I still have to work on DH to consider soup as a meal. He thinks of it as a side and yet it has everything in it a whole dinner could possibly have and more! He will adjust! His whole life has been meat and potatoes but the times they are a changin'!

Ya'll have some really great sounding meals you've been cooking up. I am starting to get anxious to try them. A great way to start out the New Year!

Day 14--2 weeks--no smoking!! It seems like it should be 2 months! Ha! Still isn't easy but it is doable. I think the Nictone Patches or maybe not smoking are contributing to my recent dreams...the last 2 nights the dreams were not my favorite though. I wake up almost tired from such busy/frantic dreams. I'm sure those will lessen too as I wean off the patches or with more "no smoking" time under my belt. The desire to smoke is still going strong but not as strong as 2 weeks ago! They should make tabacco illegal!! Ha! My lungs do feel cleaner and I am starting to smell better. And, oh yes, food continues to taste better too! Even reading about food is better!!

Tonight will definately be something with leftover turkey in it. Our turkey turned out great last night. DH decided to do the leggs and wings seperate and make them pulled turkey for freezing and using for hot turkey and gravy sandwiches in the future. I don't think there was a bit of waste on this turkey!! The dog and cats even got to enjoy the extra skin and fats. So everyone went away happy and full!!

Goooooooooood Morning all! Well the snow continues (heads up to those east) so we'll just continue cooking!
Molochai, I saw the commercial for that pizza and just couldn't wrap my head around the idea of "all natural" and "Pizza Hut" in the same sentence.

South, great picture thank you it looks yummy!

Cyn, it's the patches causing the dreams. Unfortunately (or fortunately if it's a good dream) a side effect is what I call " dreams in technicolor" and they can be quite disturbing and very, very real looking.

Axinom, since you're a such a famous daves fan here's a couple of recipes from them so you can do it at home.

Famous Dave's Rib Rub recipe
Source: Chef Dave Anderson - Famous Dave's

Rib Rub:
2 cups packed light brown sugar
1 cup kosher salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup garlic seasoning
1/4 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 cup lemon pepper
1/4 cup onion salt
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
2 tablespoons coarse ground black pepper
2 tablespoons whole celery seeds
1 teaspoon crushed cloves
1 tablespoon cayenne
1/2 teaspoon Mrs. Dash original blend
1/4 cup salt
Prepare rib rub thoroughly mixing all rub ingredients. Store in airtight container. Makes 6 cups.
Ribs:
2 (4 to 5 pound) rack spareribs
1/2 cup Italian salad dressing
1/2 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup minced dried onion
1 cup Rib Rub
1 (20 ounce) bottle Famous Dave's BBQ sauce
The night before smoking, trim your ribs of all excess fat. Place them in a large plastic bag and pour in Italian dressing to coat. Seal bag well. Refrigerate for 4 hours, turning occasionally.
Remove and wipe dressing off. Sprinkle each rib with pepper then refrigerate overnight. The next morning remove from wrap and wipe sludge off ribs. Generously coat front and back of ribs with Rib Rub and using your hands, rub seasoning into meat and set aside. The smoking process will take 6 hours. Using a chimney charcoal starter get 15 briquettes red hot. Place coals on one end of grill and place 1 pound of green hickory around coals. Use water-soaked hickory chunks of you can't get fresh-cut hickory. Keep internal temperature of the grill at 200 to 225 degrees F. Add more charcoal and hickory chunks every hour as needed. Place rib bone side down but not directly over hot coals.
After 3 hours, remove ribs from grill and wrap in aluminum foil. Hold in covered grill at 180 to 200 degrees F for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until fork tender.
Next build a real hot bed of coals over the entire bottom of grill. Place ribs back on grill to add char flavor. When meat becomes bubbly it is done. Make sure to char off bone side membrane until it becomes papery and disintegrates. Slather with BBQ sauce. Let heat caramelize sauce. This caramelizing along with the charring and slow smoking is the secret to tender smoky ribs just like the Championship pitmasters used to do in the Deep South.
Yields 5 to 6 servings.

Below is one of my personal favorites
Espresso and Molasses BBQ sauce
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup very strong black espresso coffee
1 cup hot ketchup
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 onion, peeled and chopped, about 1 cup
4 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
2 tablespoons dark molasses
3 fresh jalapeno peppers, or hotter if desired, seeded
2 tablespoons honey-mustard
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons chili powder
PREPARATION:
•Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Cool, then puree in a blender or food processor until smooth. This can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks in a covered container.
Yield: 1 1/2 - 2 CUPS

Hope y'all are having a good start to the new year, my body let me know that I did too much yesterday (no drinking btw) and I've been paying for it since about 3am. I guess that's the cost of good food and good company, oh well it WAS fun!!

VPcats, I've bought my share of casino light bulbs and when I lost I had to chalk up some of the loss to entertainment factor since I did have fun doing it. If I spent a few hours and "only" lost $33 I'd be ok with that (but winning IS much mo betta) considering a movie, soda and popcorn runs almost that and you usually only get 100 minutes of movie not counting the commercials.
LOLLL... it wasn't too bad and we did have fun all in all. It was a beautiful day out yesterday and we were inside the casino only about 1 hr. It doesn't take long to lose. At least here I could get out and go somewhere else. The ships are a much different story. You should hear me complain after those trips.

Dinner today:

Good Morning

That rib recipe sounds great...thanks for sharing.

Cyn those dreams are normal with the patch. Can you go yet without it at night and then maybe keep one on your nightstand and put it on about a half hour before you get up in the morning?
Before you know it, it will be two months but two weeks is great. Usually by the end of the third week you won't be as jiggy.

Jimj, thanks for the recipes--I will copy and paste them into my recipe file. I have never been to this restaurant, Daves, but the recipes sound wonderful!
Also, thank you so much CW and Jimj for explaining the dream-thing to me. I wasn't at all sure. They are vivid dreams and when good they are fun but the bad ones are miserable. I feel so frantic sometimes during them. But this too will pass and eventually I will hopefully be normal again! Well, maybe not normal, I've really never been normal but as normal as "I" can be! Ha!

Jim, I MIGHT be having Famous Dave's today.... seems my aunt had a late night at work last night and might not be cooking for the crowd of us... and when that happens we have Famous Daves BBQ at her house! Which I find to be pretty good.... I like this local BBQ place... Dinosuar BBQ to be a bit better.... but I won't pass on BBQ EVER!!!!! MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm RIBS! LOL Glad to have the recipe though for home use..... Thanks for that.... I am currently out of permission to rep as I gave out too many yesterday with the NY..... gotta Love CD sometimes.....but that does deserve a rep point in my book..... LOL

So, I am being FED yet again at another family party. Feeling a bit better today... well, I should say rested.... still have the cold. But the sleep has done me well. Tonight I am planning on being too stuffed to have to cook for hubby and myself... LOL... but the kids will want SOUP- I can almost gaurantee it. Grandma sent soup home last night so they will want that- so I don't even have to cook it... just reheat..... I have it pretty good today.....

I want to hear how that Tom and Jerry party went.... How is a certain someone feeling this morning???? LOL

Cyn.... Way to go girl! Keep it up!

Lacey- stay warm.... we are only supposed to get a few flakes and hover around 30... nothing too nasty- that should come this weekend......

Good morning everybody. I have a lot thawing in the refrigerator for a big weekend cooking session, but I don't know what we're having tonight! Something easy, maybe baked potatoes with cottage cheese.
