Well I get out of fixing a big dinner tonight. In fact may not fix anything. We are doing our good deed for the week: we are visiting a shut in couple from church about 3pm. Then our good friends we hang out with are having us over for wine and heavy appetizers. I guess it is a reward or maybe just a way to enjoy spending time with friends and to watch the boats go by from their sun room. Anyway, knowing what they serve when we go over for wine I am pretty sure I will escape without cooking dinner

Calico beans - limas, butter, black and pork and beans mixed with a spicy barbeque sauce, bacon and hamburger. It's DH's mother's old recipe tweaked a bit. We've got cherries and watermelon for dessert.

I never cared for baked beans until I tasted this. She used kidney beans which are just not my favorite in chili or anything else. (Yes, Minnesotans used kidney beans in chili.) So I substitute black beans which I love. Besides being tasty and protein-heavy it's also about as pretty as you can make baked beans look.
