yep, but at least in my house it's because DH can't stick a spoon in it that has other food residue on it.

On another note I have a problem with edible goods from other countries.
Pkging or cans they come in...quality of Pkging material and the quality of the cans things come in.
After a few trie.s I did a Kaput and No More for me.
Label is required to state product source and/or country while packed in the USA.....buyer beware.

Some time ago I got interested in this topic. For example with water it doesn't work that way. When water is bottled and it is not open the expiry date concerns plastic. When it comes to milk, yogurts and other dairy products 1 day after the date is okay for me. I always carefully look on the product if everything is okay with them.

The milk test.
Last month bought 1/2 gal of milk.I am lactose intolerant so use is limited for me.
Code date was 24th and on 23rd did a smell test and made some French toast for the freezer.
Next morning was going to use a few drops for my coffee....nope it smelled on the 24th.
How close can a person get?

I ignore the dates & go by look & smell. I once ate some smoked salmon that was 10 years past date, It was fine. It was a vacuum packed box, that was lost at the back of a dining room cupboard, where I do not normally keep edible items.

Most stores are very good at marking-down their meat a few days before the expiration-date. I guess that huge undercover-story about the store repackaging and selling expired meat, left a desire by many to not get hit with the same.

Good for me though, I would like to think of myself as the king of marked-down meat. I buy meat and eggs, all the time, at or near the expiration-date and have never had a problem.
