I have just purchased a bottle of 100% cranberry juice for it's immuno properties. Is there a secret to drinking it? I knew that it would be tart, but was not prepared for the intensity of the flavor.

With vodka or gin?

Seriously, so you don't hold your nose and chug it down? I love bitter things, but this... well, I'm gonna try it on the rocks, but it's not pleasant.

Default I tried getting my kids to drink it...

Wanna see my 2 kids gag ? Give them straight up cranberry juice. My 4 year old acted like it was arsenic. I ended up mixing it with apple juice.

I've tried the cranberry pills before. Not sure if they "work" or not. My daughter UTI's sometimes.

Yesterday in the health section of the L.A. Times there was a small article about cranberry juice and it's assistance with UTI's......the doctor said they had done studies and the mixed cranberry juices were more effective than the straight, bitter stuff..... I think I'd cut it with another juice...grape, apple, raspberry, strawberry, peach, etc.....and if you are in need of straight cranberry for other health reasons such as you are listing, maybe buy the capsules next time???????

I usually water it down a bit because it's too sweet for me.....and it helps with the caloric content, too....

High in vitamin C.

I've had nearly a half gallon of this today. It's not bad at all.

Mix it with apple or grape juice to offset the sourness. Or you could ask some sugar or artificial sweetners/

I always mix it with OJ. A nice combo, one of my favourite juice drinks. Oftentimes the OJ I buy is a mix of orange and mango - also a good combo.

Funny but I don't mind cranberry juice at all as I've always loved tart anything, over sweetness. I can even eat lemons and limes straight. I can drink cranberry straight no problem but prefer the OJ and Cranberry combo.

Nomadicus, it looks as though you are drinking the juice that is combined with other juices. I do like that- with or without the vodka. But pure juice will send chills through your body. And not the good kind either!

TNGal- you are a cruel mother- LOL! I told my teens that we would drink a couple of ounces each day to see how it makes us feel- they totally rebelled after the tiniest sip!

I will take Vichel's advice and mix with OJ, as that is all I have hand right now. Hmmm...I have frozen mango and other fruit...maybe a smoothy.

IMPORTANT INFO ON CRANBERRY JUICE: Did you know that it is a blood thinner? I bought it BC my mom is having surgery Friday and after her pre op testing on Monday they called and said that she had a slight UTI. They never mentioned cranberry juice, just prescribed something. So I bought the pure cranberry juice at Whole Foods and went to get her Rx. I asked the pharmacist why the doc's office would not have told her to drink cranberry juice. The pharmacist asked if she was on blood thinners. No, I told her, only the baby aspirin. Then I mentioned that she was having surgery on Friday. Well.... That was why they didn't want her to have the juice, the pharm told me, BC cranberry juice acts as a blood thinner. So glad that I asked!
