I started out with a Pyrex percolator, after it broke I went through a few electric drip machines including a fantastic 4 cup model that was discontinued by the time mine broke, a travel cup model that didn't get the water hot enough, and a couple french presses that left grounds in the last cup and I hated cleaning them. Never thought to wrap a filter around the screen. Been using an old Melitta cone for many years. Works for me.

I have a campfire percolator that makes a great pot of coffee. I just fill it and place it on the campfire coals.

That reminds me of our "tenting" days, years ago. Such fun, and I remember standing close to the campfire shivering in the chill morning air until the coffee perked.

Great memories, but I'm quite happy now when we go camping in our travel trailer that's equipped with most of the comforts of home.

Tonight, I was reminded one of the things I like about perked coffee and that is its taste with the other elements of breakfast, like griddlecakes.

As far as the drip coffee at work, well, its taste is okay but its real value is psychological. It's the norming of my midnight shift way of life in that it helps, on the first mug, me to feel like a normal person.

Well, I'm happy to report that I got an Aerobie AeroPress off of Amazon and love it. Took me a couple of slow tries to get it right after watching some videos on Youtube, but now I'm a pro.

Good, strong and smooth. Bonus! I found a very cheap, really good tasting coffee at Walmart (under $3/1lb
bag)

The french press is the process I use the most since I can get a smooth yet strong flavor with no bitterness. I do love the smell of perked coffee. I wish there was a process that could duplicate that wonderful aroma of perked without the bitter flavor and the oils that bothered my stomach. Any ideas?
Do you use a filter for percolator brewing?

My mom has the same issues with perked coffee being too acid for her (it doesn't seem to affect me). When she visits, I use a disc filter to line the bottom of the basket, and that seems to catch the bulk of the oils that bother her stomach.

I don't find percolator brew bitter, though, unless my grounds-to-water ratio is off.

Odd person out here. I love my Keurig. I don't drink a lot of coffee, but when I do I like to be able to select different flavors.

We buy Starbucks whole bean coffee (Breakfast Blend and Sumatra) and use a simple drip machine.

I make a pour over with a ceramic cone using Mayorga Cafe Cubano. Organic, whole bean, dark roast----strong but not acidic.

When I'm in a hurry-----and for that first cup in the morning---I use my SunCana coffee maker with a Melitta biodegradable pod, dark roast.
