I can’t remember the last time I even made a sandwich.

The only one that I would ever put butter on would be a grilled cheese.
Putting butter on bread for a sandwich is just...too much. I’ve never even heard of anyone doing this.

It really depends upon what is on the sandwich. I did tonight.

Or perhaps we use different butter :-)

I just like the buttery taste compared to mayonnaise on my grilled cheese sandwiches. Not that I dislike mayo or anything. Just a preference.

Butter on grilled cheese only (and only on the outside). I have had butter on my sandwiches when I was in Scotland. It really doesn't appeal to me. I am not even that excited about mayo unless it's combined with some other flavor.

Coming from the UK it was unheard off to NOT have butter on any sandwich, although I must be a fugitive because I just had plain bread.
Funny thing is most people could not stomach a table spoon of butter neat but would gladly spread it on there bread never could understand this.

I buy my baguette at a local bakery and it's to die for. All it needs it some unsalted whipped butter and it's perfect. Which brings us back to butter...salted or unsalted. Whipped or not? We don't have a gourmet selection where I live, so I use Land O Lakes whipped unsalted butter for my bread.

Marmite is delicious, but you have to put butter on first or the Marmite won't spread thinly enough.

Here in the UK butter on a sandwich is the usual thing, with mayonnaise coming some way behind in second I guess.
