Tried some today at the grocery Store. They had samples served on cinnamon sugar pita chips. Boars head was the brand. OMG! It was good. I did not buy it though because I knew I'd eat the entire container. I still might buy it another time but will have to restrain myself from eating it all in one shot. The taste reminded me of raw brownie batter.
Doesn't sound like something I would spend money on: the whole idea just isn't appealing. I am not a hummus fan period but some of it is ok. I did get a chili one from Ald's a few weeks ago that if spicy and tastes pretty good. The idea of chocolate isn't appealing to me plus the combo of cinnamon sugar pita chips with it doesn't light my fire. I am sure others think it is a great combination.
I tried some from ALDi, and thought it was pretty good. Won't buy it again, though, because if I want treat food, I will just get real treat food; not something that is masquerading as "healthy."
I LOVE homemade chocolate hummus. Mine is simply blending chickpeas, tahini, cocoa powder, maple syrup. That's it. it is not incredibly sweet but just sweet enough, and has a thick fudge like texture. Goes very well with fresh fruit, crackers, toast, or all by itself. it could work as a filling in something too.
There are many other recipes that also use various beans and lentils for baking sweet concoctions so it's nothing new. Black bean brownies is one. I once made a gluten free ginger cake for someone that called for red lentils in the cake. It was amazing, and the lentils added just a little bit of extra spice/zing but otherwise were undetectable, but worked well as a binder.
I brought my chocolate hummus to a potluck and once I was able to convince people to try it, they loved it. I have never tried store bought to compare it to, but i definitely prefer homemade hummus of any kind hands down to store bought.
I had some from Boar`s Head. It was very good, especially, the times you have a sweet tooth.....no guilt. I wouldn`t of bought it, but it was being demoed in the store, and they gave out coupons. I would buy it again.
I bet it is similar to a horse chestnut chocolate cake I made.

Please tell me there was no garlic involved! Just "NO". I love both hummus and chocolate, but not in my mouth at the same time.
However, if I were shopping and it was free, I might try it. When and if it hits Ohio, I'll let you know.
