I had chicken fried steak just last week. I've had better, but it was still good. It's only the 2nd time since I moved South that I had it. You can feel the white gravy just clogging up the old arteries as you're eating it. Too good.
Had a big t'storm this afternoon, so we couldn't cook a big meal because the power kept going off and coming back on. I cooked angel hair pasta, which DH had with butter and I used the last of the bolognese sauce. I know...you really need something more substantial w/bolognese, but that's what he wanted. Oh, and I had some green salad too.
NMS, butter, huh? Careful, he might try to slip out of those handcuffs
We had pierogies and limas. Plain but easy and simple. Nomad, you'll be happy to hear that I spiced it up with cayenne pepper, black pepper, and tabasco
Sorry but I am still not convinced on the chicken fried steak! The thought of a steak coated in stuff and fried just sounds gross to me. Then again I don't really like breaded/fried chicken either. I'll just eat the potatoes and gravy!!
We had grilled chicken in a mexican marinade, a garden salad, and our new fave - grilled bread that is brushed with olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper. BF also grilled two whole trout with cilantro and lemon stuffed inside. I just had a few bites as a app.
Busy day at Cyn's table, as usual - greetings to all, and I apologize if I don't catch up with everyone. Work is getting crazy with another month-end to get through, and the days are starting to get long again.
Spouse made a wonderful stir-fry of pork, mushrooms, green garlic, green onions, ginger, and bean-thread noodles, seasoned with a bit of Korean red pepper flakes; it was seriously yummy. And there's enough left over to make a lunch for him later this week, too, so it'll do double duty.
I saw the comments about chicken-fried steak - that's one of our great favorites, and is actually a food that the spouse defers to me in cooking; he and our kids are certain that I make *the best* chicken-fried steak around. I wouldn't go that far, but I can make a darn good one. HighlandsGal, it might help to imagine it if you stop thinking about it as actual steak. It's not like someone breads and fries up a T-bone or something - we use cube steak, or round steak pounded tender, the kind of thing that takes some work to make appetizing.
I'll certainly agree about the calorie count in chicken-fried steak, though - it's something that I only make a few times a year, and only when our college boy is home to eat up the majority of it, to save our aging arteries. Come to think of it, I should check in with him to see when he's planning another trip back for the weekend. It might be time for another chicken-fried steak feast here soon.
Oh phew, I can get some sleep now - was so worried!
