I went to Publix yesterday morning around 11 AM. I couldn't believe how packed the parking lot was. Everybody in there looked liked snowbirds/retirees. There were long lines at the check out counters with people's baskets loaded up to the top. The casher told me that it was just as crowded at 7:30 in the morning. Very telling, since they don't even open until 7 AM.

I know it is Super Bowl weekend and that probably was a factor, but I don't remember it being this crowded last year.

Well this is the first month that it has happened but December's tourism numbers spending was up 2.7% compared to last year. So just maybe the bad weather kept people off the beaches and drove them indoors to spend a little.

because of the cooler weather, didn't go out somewhere this year, and decided to host parties at their homes instead.

Up here, in TN, my husband has received NUMEROUS job offers in the past month. In the fall, there were five men that would pick their kids up from school. I haven't seen them in two months.

And my business, in the past week, has picked up considerably, and I can assure all of you that I am not really up and running, yet. My presence is barely out there.

It's moving along. I promise you.

Thank you!

Here's some interesting insider info.

Do you know who my clients are, right now? The extremely rich or folks that can't afford to spend much. The latter have the money, though. It looks like folks that were frugal and want to move to my area, but don't have a lot to spend. For them, now is the time. Of course, the same goes for the folks with money. Now is the time.

I do have a lot of folks in the middle, but they are all in the wings, waiting to sell their homes, and they are coming from all over the country. Now is definitely not the time. Not until they sell that house.

I hope this gives you all some insight.

Happy Super Bowl. Geaux Saints!

" About 62,000 residents in the region fell below the poverty line in 2008. Last year, 22,500 more people in the region slipped below that mark - $21,800 for a family of four - according to the study on suburban poverty.

"All of the statistics they're giving out are extremely conservative in terms of what we're seeing in our community," said Jamie Stilson, a pastor at Vineyard Community Church of Cape Coral.

The church has seen about a 30 percent increase in the last year in its feeding program that now serves as many as 700 a week.

About 80 percent of the volunteers who help are unemployed, he said.

About 38,000 people looking for work in Southwest Florida can't find it. The latest estimates put Lee County's unemployment rate at almost 14 percent. "

By the way, I don't agree with your assessment of the rich, Tommy. There are good and bad folks in both financial demographics. Upbringing has an awful lot to do with it. It doesn't surprise me that you've had such experiences, though. Lots of new money in Collier and Lee Counties. The chances are not good that they've read Emily Post, nor their mothers.
