I used to tip 15%. My parents (who were very frugal) told me it was 15% and I didn't know any better so I did it for years. Then my ex became a cab driver and I learned different.
Hmmm, I guess if asked I would have said about 15%...although I'm sure that I've tipped much more than that because I tend to round up.
Just curious, whenever tipping comes up for dining out, an argument that comes up is that the IRS figures servers to make 15%+ and anything less than that costs them (the server) money. Is it the same with cab drivers?
What about shuttle drivers, or hotel drivers? I end up tipping about two bucks a bag or so,,,
I sometimes need to take a cab to work. I have always been generous but the rates have gone up and now I'm not feeling so generous.
What is a percentage that you would tip? 20%?
Thanks
20% is good if the driver is OK...
I had a few bags and the driver told me he doesn't help with bags. Fare was $65 and I gave him $3 tip and I thought he didn't deserve that...
I always wonder if I'm supposed to tip on the toll charge. I usually take a 10 minutes tops ride that in itself is about 15 bucks and tolls is $7.50 on top of that. Is the tip supposed to be 20% of 15 (3 bucks) or 20% of ~23 (5 bucks).
Same with restaurants, you aren't expected to tip on the tax/tolls/congestion charges.
