I expect it to start blowing up in late Feb as we are gonna have a super warm and dry winter. I always keep it waterd when it is dry. I will start taking some pics just before it goes nuts and takes off. I have no worry it will be fine come March.
Seems the other pods have not flowered yet and just two or three small leaves on the tree. I bet it takes off like crazy in March. This whole week looks like highs in the 50's and lows around mid to upper 30's.

The tree is a odd one. Grew like crazy from late Feb and then just stopped in July and in late July the leaves started dropping from the bottom up. Older leaves dropped first. Been bare since Sept, then some flowers in Dec. No telling what it will do this year.
you MAY not get a mass flower show at all---the tree is supposed to require a certain amount of cool temps (like some fruit trees) during the winter---if it does not receive this some of flower buds MAY drop or fail to open (certainly my plant in a relatively mild winter (but cool summer) portion of the Oregon coast (USDA 9) rarely puts on the flower show that trees further inland with colder winters (and hotter summers) seem to do) . this potential problem in extremely mild climates may be one of the reasons that this plant is rarely seen in southern California (L.A. and San Diego for example) and instead you see jacaranda which has similar colored flowers but much prefers very mild winters.

Tree took a 28f degree hit so it is pretty much dead in it's tracks for now. What few flowers it had has stopped and the rest of the pods have almost all fallen off the tree. So within a month i expect the tree to start blowing up with new growth. Tree has been bare since late Aug. Long time to see a tree be bare for that long.
