I wish they would allow people who are not going to respond to genealogy questions to opt out so you never even know they are there and just keep the ones who are interested in sharing family trees.
The thing is I am not at 1000 relatives just yet. I try to send requests to people who show significant ancestry to me even though the best lead ever came from a distant cousin. We shared .09% DNA across one segment. Anyway, as more people join I do not want to lose access to lower level cousins.

The site is just wacky right now. Right after posting here this a.m. I lost all of my RF results. They are back now (at least when I was there earlier). The holidays are coming. People really get into this kind of thing. I think it's time for a site revamp or better servers.

I have exchanged emails today with a cousin who is also on 23Andme. We know our relationships (cousins through two different lines with great paper trails -- she does the DAR thing). She has a relative match who also matches me but who is not on my list, and I have one who matches her who is not on her list. So there are definitely some glitches in the matching process.

Into week four at stage 5 and still no ancestry results. Very poor service. I will not be recommending this company to others.

FINALLY - my ancestry results are in - YAY! And surprise, surprise, in spite of a family trait of very dark eyes, dark coarse hair, and highly colored complexions, I am nearly 100 percent European - northern European at that! Wow, that was a surprise, with all the family lore of Indian princesses, swarthy mystery men, and gypsies!

My speculative results (which match up perfectly with the pretty extensive family tree that my dad's put together over the years and our surnames so I'm going with that) are that I am 100 percent European. I am 62 percent British and Irish, 4 percent French and German, 1.2 percent Scandinavian, 29 percent Northern European, 2 percent southern European, and less than .1 percent Northern African.

So...don't let anyone ever try to tell you that Northern Europeans can't be dark eyed and dark haired with a ruddy complexion, cuz it just ain't so, folks!

Wow, no wonder I like British comedies and BBC programs so much. THIS IS SO COOL!

I am afraid that the OP will get a lot of non-specific ancestry. I'd asked up thread how she identified but she did not respond. I do not believe this will be a pleasant experience for her. I believe that the test is not sensitive enough for certain people and their DNA.

Wanted to update you CMichele!

My results were very specific, and aligned well with what we know of our family tree, and put to rest some legends and lore that people along the way had used to fill in some gaps. My results are very pleasing to me and apparently the test was sensitive enough to give me a lot of detail, which is as follows:

100%
European

Northern European

62.2% - British & Irish
4.4% - French & German
1.3% - Scandinavian
28.7% - Nonspecific Northern European

Southern European

0.5% - Balkan
0.1% - Sardinian
1.3% - Nonspecific Southern European
1.4% - Nonspecific European

Middle Eastern & North African
< 0.1% - North African
< 0.1% - Unassigned

So less than .1 percent of my DNA is unassigned, and only 1.4 percent of it is "nonspecific European!" Yay, me!

I am the epitome of a WASP.

Well, I lost big time. I bet on alot more variety. Congratulations on being pleased with your results. Here are the definitions of the various views to help with interpretation.
"The default Standard Estimate corresponds to 75% confidence. You have the option to make the estimate more strict (the Conservative Estimate is at 90% confidence) or more lenient (the Speculative Estimate is at 50% confidence)."

Congrats, Kathryn. It was your threat to never recommend them to anyone that did it, I'm sure.

Now I'll know what to do if my results aren't in by Christmas.
