As an American you should really go overseas. What are you going to take out of going to Los Angeles? Never seen a traffic jam before? London is a good place to start since they speak English and the general culture of the US is based on Anglo-culture. Then maybe go to Rome, Paris and Prague. Americans needs to go see the old world, how many manufactured phony experiences like Disney can you see before you open your mind to tradition and history.
Las Vegas, Miami and Washington DC, but only once. There are too many Third World cities out there to obsess about those in the US.
Those you need to visit and should revisit again: Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco, and Seattle.
World cities to visit: Hong Kong, London, Madrid, Paris, Shanghai, Tokyo

Gee thanks for the lecture and all, but why does it bother you if I want to experience my own country a little first? It's not as if Boston, Atlanta, Phoenix and Seattle are identical. I can encounter a traffic jam just as well in London as in L.A., thanks. As if people go to L.A. to experience the traffic jams.
