Both are beautiful. On my first trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway I was scared to death, the next year my husband to me on the Million Dollar Highway between Durango and Silverton and they cured me real quick. I was never scared on the Parkway after that. I call the mountains in N.C. the gentle mountains.ok they seem friendlier, but either place is better than where I am now in Houston.
I agree; the NC Blue Ridge are gentle mountains. What a great way to put it. The Rockies are big, beautiful, and grand, but I still prefer the gentler ones. Actually, I'd definitely take either as I love mountains.
ILNC, I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one that freaked out on the Blue Ridge mountain roads. Goodness, I must psyche myself out on my next trip to find some really secluded places and therefore, I must take the less traveled road.

The thing that creeps me out about mountains is when you go downhill on extremely steep grades.

Born and raised in CO, so it's pretty clear where my biases are. There are many, many pretty and scenic areas across the lower 48 with mountains and hills, but only the Rockies, and also the Sierra Nevadas I'll add, are big and bad enough to blow me away. (Let's put aside Alaska here for a minute, that's a whole 'nother ball game!)
You don't need to include how much you hate houston in every post. It gets really old really fast, and it isn't turning people away from such a great city, just move to North Carolina already and shut up please for all of us.
You never know, but some people may actually be turned-off when they learn of heat and humidity in a city and therefore, choose against moving there. I know I would be just as I would be if someone told me the place I was considering moving was full of crime and other undesireable things, weather included.
In my opinion, you aren't being very polite to tell her to shut up. ILNC has a right to voice her opinion as often as she likes, just as we all do. She isn't directing her dislike to a person as you did to her; she's talking about a hot and humid city who couldn't care less if it's liked anyway. People have feelings; states and cities do not.
I prefer the taller, craggier Rockies to the Appalachians. While both are beautiful in their own right I give the edge to the Rockies.
