Which restaurant chain is most picky about where it goes? (house, cost)

Portillo's is an incredible hot dog place with 30 locations in Chicago and 2 in Los Angeles. It's obviously more of a Chicago thing than a national chain, but it is certainly a chain restaurant with fantastic food.

Red Lobster tried to make it in New England. They opened one in Portsmouth, NH and Hyannis, Mass. They both failed miserably.
Dunkin Donuts tried to market their way into Portland and Seattle. Didn't work, the coffee scene in both cities was too much to compete with and shut down most of them in the area.The only people I noticed that are really big on Dunkin Donuts are in the Northeast or where ever they are heavily transplanted.
I will say though I had Mahi Mahi that was flown in from Hawaii that morning spiced with ginger and topped with pineapple salsa at McCormick and Schmicks in Seattle . The greens on the side were garden fresh. I can't say it matters if M&S had several locations around the country because I certainly won't pass up a good meal like that. That was excellent.
I like to support local as much as I can, but there is no denying that there are higher end food chains that do the food scene very well. I'm all about eating fresh food.
Comparing M&S or Bonefish to Red Lobster, get real.

Wahoos fish tacos. A family owned chain. I believe you you have to be a family member to open a shop. Limited locations in CA, Colorado and Texas. Awesome grindage!

Not really...from what I can see, the only Red Lobsters in New England are Southeast of Hartford, CT. There are four total Red Lobsters in all of New England, and nearly 100% of the market is directed at Yankees fans.
I don't really have anything against chain restaurants, though I'd prefer to eat local stuff...especially while traveling. I remember going to Manhattan with my friend, and it was his first time there. We were walking around and he says "hey, I'm hungry...you wanna go to Outback or something?" My head nearly exploded. I will never understand that mentality. I made him go down to the West Village where we were meeting some girls so we could just find a random hole-in-the-wall to eat at.
In our area, there are a few that are picky. An example is Krystal fast food. They are almost everywhere in the South, but there's very few of them in SC. A few in the Greenville-Spartanburg area, one token unit in Murrells Inlet, a few around Aiken, and the ones around Savannah. That is it.
Generally, you don't see any north of the Upstate, East TN, and a few in KY, and they don't go west of Texas, where they just opened like 3 in the Dallas area, one in Houston and a couple other odd places.
Bojangles is the opposite. They are almost everywhere in the Carolinas and Southside VA, but they just started in the last few years putting locations in metro Atlanta, and there's none outside their core Southeast area. The area they do serve, they superserve it. Most towns over 5,000 have them.

There used to be a Krystal right near Clemson...overall it's a pretty crappy place. I remember slugging them back when I was drunk a few times, and some of my more stoned friends loved the place...but when I ate it sober, I was disappointed.
Bojangles is even worse. Bojangles was the worst chain I've ever experienced in my entire life. I don't understand how Bojangles stays open...I wouldn't feed it to my dog.
