1. The border between Missouri and Kentucky is the only border between two states that has no road crossing it - if you want to get from Missouri to Kentucky (or vice versa), you must go through a small part of Illinois first.
2. Reno, Nevada is west of Los Angeles.
3. Québec (the city) is south of Seattle.
4. The southernmost point in Canada (Middle Island in Lake Erie) is slightly south of the northernmost point in the state of California, meaning that if you had two people standing in exactly the right places in California and in Ontario, the one in Ontario would be standing farther south.
5. The easternmost point of Maine actually belongs in the same time zone as Atlantic Canada (GMT-4).
6. The entirety of the state of Indiana, most of the state of Ohio, and very nearly all of Michigan (except the four counties in the upper peninsula bordering Wisconsin, which are in Central time) are in the wrong time zone for their geographical location.
7. If you draw a straight line north from the westernmost point of Florida, it will pass through Illinois.

I've seen this one before, including on this thread, but it gets me every time. So weird.

Why is that?

1. Murphy NC ( Far sw corner of the state) is closer to St. Louis than it is to the Outer Banks
2. The far sw corner of Virginia is further west than Detroit.
3. Wisconsin shares no border with Canada
4. Parts of the eastern time zone are over 300 miles west than parts of the central time zone.

Those areas should be in Central Time, the "geographic" division between Central/Eastern Time is 82.5°W longitude, which is just east of Columbus, OH and is east of the entire states of MI and IN

Who decided this? It would make central time disproportionately larger than the other time zones considering it goes as far west as the end of South Dakota.

The geographical west end of Central Time is 97.5°W, which is just west of San Antonio, TX.

The "geographic" boundaries of time zones are 7.5° longitude east and west of their centers. Central Time's center is 90°W, so it SHOULD run from 82.5°W to 97.5°W.
The current western boundary of Central time is 4-5° west of where it should be, so if that were corrected, no Central Time would NOT be way larger than the others.

The Time Zones are very incorrectly drawn around certain places in this world. For example, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is in Central Time despite being on the Pacific Ocean and farther west than Albuquerque. And China has one time zone for the whole freaking country even though it spans 4 or 5. Imagine living in northwestern China and having a 1am sunrise or sunset at noon....

If you live on Knotts Island in Currituck County, North Carolina, you can only reach the rest of North Carolina by taking a road through Virginia first. Alternatively, you can take a ferry.

Welcome to Knotts Island
