Ilwaco
Kalaloch
Method
Washtucna
Wauconda
Skamokawa

And even where I live, Sammamish.

Moved to Wyoming a couple of years ago and needed to learn the way they pronounce their towns and landmarks around here so I could fit in better and not totally stand out as a newcomer.

Kemmerer Wy- Pronounced Kem-mer.

Dubois Wy- Pronounced Dew boys not the French way Du bwa

Opal Wy- Pronounced Oh Pal

Gros Ventre- Pronounced grow vont

Togwotee- Pronounced TOGA-tee

Also I used to pronounce Boise, ID Boys-zee but now I've learned it's actually Boys-see. I have a hard time saying it the correct way.

Came here to say this! I wonder if this is a source of confusion for tourists

You never saw cartoons with Yosemite Sam when you were a kid?

Sure I did, but I never saw his name spelled in the cartoon, so never associated it with Yosemite NP. If you'd've asked me to spell Yosemite Sam back then, I probably would've spelled it y-o-s-e-m-i-t-t-y. (as they taught us in 1st grade, Sound it out!

Sometimes just the accent will reveal an outsider. Locally, Sugar LAND Texas is in FORT Bend County.

I have to put my own hometown here. Even people told how to say it can't force themselves to sat it right. Waupun, Wisconsin, rhymes with "Hop on!" as an enthusiastic merry-go-round operator would invite kids to do. Fully stressed on both syllables, forget about the A and the U's.

Waupun is right between Beaver Dam and Fond du Lac, both accented on the first syllable only..

Outside the Upper Midwest, a lot of people think Minneapolis is pronounced and spelled like "Mindianapolis", as if it's the same as Indianapolis with an 'M' at the beginning. I also hear "Minne-ann-apolis" from other clueless people and it makes my ears bleed.
