One of the steepest highways in the city is actually a bridge, the high bridge.

Hah that is very cool, I've never seen a bridge on a downward incline like that.

Pittsburgh has many....some are regular streets, then become to steep and are stairs, and then once again become streets. Others are purely staircases that are considered legal streets, and they aren't simply connectors, many houses are on these paper streets that are accessible by stairs only, no roads. While not all are legal streets Pittsburgh has more stairs than SF and Cincinnati combined.

I know there are stair streets in northern Manhattan and the western Bronx. Most likely on Staten Island too.

What I did not know is that NYC has 94 stair streets! Old Photos of Inwood’s step street on 215th.
The site shows a picture of stairs in Inwood, at the northern tip of Manhattan Island.

I would guess that Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Washington DC, Worcester, possibly Boston or Providence have them too. Totally guessing.

Not aware of any stair streets in Philadelphia, some very steep ones out in Manyunk but dont remeber any stairs. There are some stair streets just outside the city in the to the west, like Conshy. Philly like NYC is mostly flat with a few hilly locations in the NW

Pittsburgh and SF are hilly more or less throughout (obviously with some flatter parts in between the hills)

I would think the BX may have some hilly parts too for NYC

Those Hills/Cliffs always remind me of the Basketball movie with DiCaprio

Manayunk has a few sets of stair streets although they seem to be smaller and somewhat hidden for whatever reason.

Always loved The Bronx stairs in Kingsbridge/Riverdale with apartment buildings pushed up on either side, although walking up them intoxicated was always a mission hah.
