Let's be honest, in the US there are two types of cities: cities for people who dream big, want to be at the top, and love adventure (think New York, Los Angeles, even San Francisco!). Then there are more laid-back cities for people who are fine working for the man, an easier pace of life, and just want to make a decent living with family/friends. What are some of the best cities for that crowd?
If I had to rank my top choices of cities to live in for a laid-back lifestyle they would be: KC, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cincinnati, San Antonio, Austin, Nashville, M/S-P, Madison...
My issue is sometimes I think I want to live in NYC or Boston and other times I am very content and comfortable here in KC.
Delete Asheville for NC (no real industry there, too much of a hospitality/retiree-driven economy) and add Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
Add Atlanta and Augusta for Georgia. Think hard about Savannah.
Add Columbia for SC.
Add NW Arkansas (Fayetteville area).
Add the Memphis suburbs for Mississippi.
I'd agree with Houston and Dallas, Chattanooga, Augusta, possibly Atlanta, Columbia, and the Fayetteville area of NW Arkansas.
Personally, I wouldn't dream of moving my family to the Memphis area, and I'd move my family to the Asheville area in a heartbeat -but hey, that's just me.
Delete Asheville for NC (no real industry there, too much of a hospitality/retiree-driven economy) and add Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
I agree, both are far too overlooked in my opinion.
