More than half of those companies are not even in the F500 nor F1000.Some of them are just divisions or manufacturing plants. However San Antonio should be on a list higher than Austin

As far as your list of companies that you say were founded or merged, some of those are like At&t were not founded in San Antonio but "briefly" had a headquarters there after the merger of SBC with Bellsouth.
All thiskinda shows that its influence is not that strong to keep

I've noticed several instances of the word "important" in this thread. Please keep in mind, the question is "influence" not "importance". I think these are related concepts, but not interchangeable.

I wish San Antonio had that many F500 or F1000. These are companies that market outside Texas and the U.S. and many at a global level. And yes, I listed At&t but should have added an asterisk. SBC grew to its size and scope in San Antonio,(16 years) which made the company a giant and able to purchase At&t. San Antonio lost a major corporate citizen.

Only the Toyota Plant is a division the rest are HQ's. H.E.B. Is just Texas and Mexico but it is one of the biggest grocery chains in the country.

Yes many of them are headquarters but most of them have parent companies.
Like for instance:New York City based MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc. isowned by Ronald Perelman and is the parent of Harland Clarke.

Its still good t have that but the distinctionis influence and ifso many of those companies are owned by larger parnt companies and subsidiaries then that is no different than what many cities have.
