Which is why i'm proud of Toronto's bid and still think if political influence didn't play a role (i.e. getting two more senators in your pocket and a slate of house reps), it would be the clear choice. It's the least sleazy of the 20 remaining bids.
Why goto Canada? Shouldn't have even been under consideration, plus there's an uptick in racism in Toronto and that doesn't fly with Amazon. Toronto is just the token Canadian city.

imho, Toronto is more than token. It ticks every box Amazon is looking for, and then some. It's a powerhouse in N. America, but agree, there may be some challenges selecting a Canadian city where what, 90% of Amazon's business is U.S-specific. It would be a challenging sell for Amazon. That said, it's in a very small handful of cities that meets Amazon's criteria.

My concern is that such a choice could cause PR problems for Amazon in an age where the Zeitgeist(well, the Trump Zeitgeist, at any rate) suggests a desire to bring jobs back within our borders. It could be construed as a big rebuff to Bezos' homeland.
That being said, I agree with the bolded statement save for affordability).

Coming from an American, you shouldn't be talking about anuptick in racism in a Canadian city when it's much worse in American cities FYI.
Well I was just reading the one article someone posted cheerleading Atlanta and it linked to a KPMG analysis about the costs of doing Business in the different US cities, and Atlanta was the lowest of the large cities. Atlanta uses that as a competitive advantage because it is. All the cities in the Northeast and West coast were near the top of the list for most expensive to do business in. It would make sense to stay competitive, you would level the playing fields with incentives.
One thing I have noticed in recent articles about the search, is the importance being place on having at least 500k SF of Class A office space ready to go by 2019. They want to see things coming together all ready. Philadelphia is lucky in the fact that we were already developing an area suitable for a company like Amazon.
This will happen with or without Amazon. But obviously a tenant like Amazon would speed the process along!
What better way for Amtrak to become more profitable and be able to pay for major infrastructure upgrades than to have Amazon as a major tenant.
From an urban planning perspective, there is no cooler project imo than Philadelphia's.
