What are your biggest dealbreakers for not wanting to move to an area? (college, living)

Too expensive. I don't care what anyone says, bring broke is MISERABLE. If you're struggling to pay bills or are just getting by, it's a lousy quality of life. You can only have so much free entertainment. No amount of scenery changes this either.

Hard to pick just one. Several were very important:

Too expensive
Too cold
Not compatible with the local prevalent culture
Don't have the right jobs
Pay too low

Mostly jobs/pay, followed by odd culture, followed by temperatures.

All of the above are would be detractors but not complete dealbreakers. In bold would be complete dealbreakers!

A lot of those factors can make a miserable experience but the ones that would make a deal-breaker for sure:

1. Too expensive
2. Too hot
3. Too hard to get in/out of
4. Too hard to live with a car
5. People are too stuck up
6. No sense of community

I also wouldn't care for somewhere with a high natural disaster risk.

For me too much crime is the true deal breaker.

I could learn to live with the other conditions listed but safety is not something I'd compromise on.

A lot of the poll choices are relative. Too expensive is an obvious choice but a natural disaster, like a volcano erupting nearby, would carry more weight. A decision tree would be an interesting exercise instead of the poll.

A lot of the options applied to me, but it was an interesting question. I chose - not enough things to do. That was the main problem I had living in the last small town I was in. It had great scenery, not great weather but not horrid weather, but there weren't enough things to do that I really enjoy doing.

For instance, now that I'm back in Silicon Valley, where there are tons of things to do even if you're broke like me, I went to a free jazz concert at the library just a few blocks away yesterday. I've signed up to volunteer for a couple of interesting things. You can be poor here and still have lots of things to choose from to do.

No snow would be second on the list.

I live in a small metro college town and work in a nearby manufacturing small metro.

Big dealbreakers about being here:

1) Too geographically isolated. I live in Johnson City, TN. I'm 1h15m away from Asheville, NC (another smallish metro dominated by tourism) and around 1h45m from Knoxville, TN. The nearest major metro is Charlotte, NC, about 3h away. There are no job centers commutable from here and the local economy is and has historically been "poor Appalachia."

2) Crime. Kingsport has a lot of crime. I wouldn't live there. I don't even want to work there. Most of it is drug and domestic, but still. I've lived in places (West Des Moines, IA Carmel, IN

3) Bad job market. You never want to be in a place where you have just one option.

Also, education not emphasized and encouraged would be a huge turnoff (incl. unmotivated populace).
