And your goal is to impress them to the point of where they would want to move to your locale. Sure, you'd show them touristy stuff (Disneyworld if you live in Orlando, etc). What would you do?

This can be for young single person or a family of four? They're looking for a new place to live and part of that would involve having fun. What would you show/do?

I'll be back with mine in a bit.

OOO. That will depend upon their perspective, lifestyle and age. One thing that people like not from St. Louis is how friendly the people are and the easiness of day to day life. I will give a neighborhood tour Tower Grove, The Grove, Soulard and the Central West End for starters. If they are people people I would probably try to engage in conversations with the locals and show off the diversity in thought of the people here.

We would have to visit the local Farmers Markets Eckerts, Soulard and Tower Grove.

If they are cultural types, I would take them to Forest Park spend some time at the Missouri History Museum, Art Museum and do a play at the Muny.

I will also take them shopping at some of the local retailers to get as sense of the local style starting on Washington Avenue with Luxe.

We have to give the Hill a visit for some good Italian food. Ferguson for Soul Food and to just give them a visual of what that area is truly about instead of the media picture. Ferguson has a unique sense of community that many miss due to stupid prejudices.

I would have to take a drive down Grand Avenue to show them the true picture of St. Louis City. The good bad and ugly.

We would have to finish the trip with Salt n Smoke, Crown Candy, Imos, find some Gooey Butter Cake and other St. Louis Staples.

We have to find some time to do a tour of the Great River Road between Grafton and St. Louis. We would have to take the bikes or do jet ski rentals. Beautiful scenery.

This should leave them with a favorable and real impression of what makes St. Louis culture unique. There are so many ways to take in St. Louis and its dynamics. When I visit a city I don't want to do the touristy stuff, I want to see the real city.

Chicago?
Not everyone likes this, but...
Probably the bar hopping scene. The food. The different neighborhoods and how they're all unique and extremely different than one another.
If no touristy stuff.

I would take them boating on the Chesapeake Bay. We would island hop and look at all the old lighthouses scattered around.

We would stop at a waterside restaurant and make sure that they try at least one crab dish or even give them a lesson on picking a blue crab the right way.

I'd take them to Annapolis around the harbor where we would shop, eat, and just enjoy the historic architecture.

I guess if they wanted to go to Baltimore (which I tend to avoid), we could take a harbor cruise, go to Fort McHenry, or enjoy the Aquarium.

We could spend a day in Washington, DC and hit as many museums as possible. We could even be daring and take the subway.

In a week's time, I could take them from the coast to the mountains to view all our diverse scenery. Lots of stops at small towns along the way.

Within my own town, we have many waterside parks and old forts. Lots of restaurants and shopping choices. If they are feeling lucky, we can stop at the casino.

There are many other things to do but I've lived in Maryland my whole life and take it all for granted and don't think of the area from a tourist/visitors point of view.

My area would appeal to the young family more than the young single.

I live in suburban Orange County, CA. The climate and scenery here is top notch. So, we'd go to several beaches (Laguna, Newport, San Clemente) and if I could pry them away from the beach, we'd also hike through a couple of the hilly wilderness parks. I'd take them to the farmer's market which has the most amazing local produce all year round.

My city is one of the safest in California. No crime to speak of and virtually no homeless. I'd show them how walkable my immediate area is, despite being mainly single-family homes. From my house, we'd walk to the lake, Central Park and the library, and two different shopping areas with grocery stores, restaurants, and other shops. Their kids could walk to elementary or middle school, and the high school is just a few minutes' drive or the kids can take the bus. Also within a short drive are two excellent community colleges (which my kids attended before transferring to university) and UC Irvine.

Just for the experience, we'd probably also drive up to one or more of the upscale malls, such as South Coast Plaza or Fashion Island, passing the Orange County Performing Arts Center along the way.

If they like museums, we'd definitely visit the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana and maybe the Laguna Art Museum. If it's summer, a day at the Laguna Beach art festivals and Pageant of the Masters would be a must.

Maybe we'd get on a whale-watching boat from Dana Point, one of my favorite local excursions.

The beach cities have excellent seafood and there is great, authentic Mexican food available everywhere. Probably a lot more, but I'm not much of a foodie myself and haven't explored the food scene that extensively.

If there's time, we'd drive down to San Diego (about 1.5 hours) and visit Balboa Park, Coronado Island, the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park, the USS Midway--whichever of these activities appeals.

Or, if they insist, we could drive up to Los Angeles for the day, though it wouldn't be my choice. If they are people who would prefer to live in LA proper, they wouldn't be seriously considering my city/county in the first place.

Um... could I hire you as my tour guide next time I'm in Los Angeles and Southern California?

We don't have to imagine, it's happened many times, and in fact, several ended up moving here. First was my parents, who came to visit for a week, but after showing them the Olympic Peninsula, ended up staying a second week talking to realtors in Sequim, WA. They ended up buying in unincorporated Port Angeles and lived there until their deaths. Then a younger brother came up to visit and he too decided to move here after seeing some of the natural beauty, such as the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, Snoqualmie Falls, and the many hiking trails through beautiful woods. There was a friend and their daughter who came to consider a college here, she did go there, then after graduation stayed and now lives in Bellevue WA with her husband and two kids. We have been here 29 years now, and still find that we can explore and see new places within a 2-3 hour drive. It may be the Okanagan Valley, Hurricane Ridge, Mt. Rainier, Snoqualmie Falls, the ocean at Westport or Ocean Shores, or the Hoh rainforest, but there are many destinations to pick from. We and are friends are not into bars, and we would take them to some favorite restaurants.

Tampa

1.) Go to 1 or 2 Disney parks.
2.) Go to downtown St. Pete, visit Dali, the waterfront, all the coffee shops and dining.
3.) Visit downtown Sarasota, the Ringling Estate, St. Armands Circle, South Lido Beach.
4.) End in Dunedin for some small town charm.

Anna Maria Island, Water Street Tampa, Midtown Tampa, Hyde Park Village, and Siesta Key if there's time!

I'm not impressed with my "locale", so I'd point out everything I dislike, and discourage them from moving here! LOL
