It's always been confusing to me. Why do they hate on us? Is it their media? Is it our media? Wherever I go, I see someone from Europe calling an American fat, stupid, or corrupted. It gets annoying sometimes.
Europeans don't hate us. They hate other Europeans. We just look ridiculous in their eyes.

Assuming OP's premise is true, I can see why other countries have issues with us. We meddle in the business of other countries, when we should be focused on the mess at home. We spent tens of millions of dollars and impeached a President over a blowjob. There was a national uproar over a half second nipple sighting at the Super Bowl. We complain about all "the cheap goods from China", and Walmart, but somehow Walmart is the largest company in the world. We whine a lot but don't really do enough to make a difference on so many fronts. We spend billions trying to keep pot out of most people's hands, but cigarettes and alcohol are legal.
We spend an enormous amount of time, money, and focus on ridiculous things that mean less than nothing.
Much of this comes from a few friends that lived in Europe for more than 15 years, and their views when they returned.
The English are very fond of Americans. I never have heard people speak badly of ordinary American people. I watched the attempts to impeach President Clinton with utter amazement. Who cares who a President has sex with?
The war on drugs is stupid, and a waste of money. All it's done is make criminals rich, and criminalised a lot of people.
Invading other countries like Iraq doesn't make sense. What did Iraq have to do with 9/11? I remember 'shock & awe' being advertised like a new season show. Lots of innocent people died, and many soldiers maimed and killed.
I guess that is why America is hated by many in that part of the world. We in England have longer memories, and know who our true friends are. We stand by America, just hope that you think long and hard before invading any more countries.

Your media promotes something in EU, and when you come here you find discrimination at every corner employment wise, long distances to drive for frivolous things like bread! You put that disgusting sperm looking icing all over every dessert making is GROSS.....you export most jobs elsewhere and the "locals" have to work in UN-preferred fields to eat. You rely on gas as if it was air, and put no efforts on creating electric transportation provided by the Sun=free! Employees are treated like disposable goods, and not like people, and valued assets to a company. Pay them peanuts and treat them like garbage. (Except for Pixar & Google, who cannot employ everyone unfortunately).
Of course in our "politics" it is much more productive to waste time on something that may or may not have even happened than to concentrate efforts towards creating jobs, and stop employers from taking advantage of their employees!!!!!!!!! If Americans would become familiar with the word: "priorities", lots of things could change for the better.
Politicians here are completely unaware that they are paid by the tax payers, and the tax payers are unaware that it is their money that's taken away at every paycheck that is keeping these morons in office wasting their money, and time. Based on the amount of time these politicians actually work, they should be the one's making $7 an hour considering that all they do is DELAY the implementation of some important laws that could change things for the better here by arguing, insulting each other, and basically waste our money by doing nothing. Its like they're saving those 6 figures for 6 years, only to have money to re-elect themselves again, and again...so nothing ever gets accomplished.
Many Americans act rude, not only here, but abroad. Loud and rude and ignorant and with an attitude.
I was in a European museum once and an American on the museum tour said, "Okay, we've seen the Rembrandt, let's go." How insulting to the tour guide and what a picture he painted of the average American: dumb, uncultured, disrespectful, loud, and pushy.
Then there's the loud, brash, braggarts who constantly proclaim anything American to be better. America is better, we do this better than you, we are the best, we are number one. How does that make other people feel? If Europeans talked like that in your country would you not feel insulted and angry?
There are millions of examples like that. Add to that our lame brained politics in this country. How many YEARS did this past election take? Then we get a President with a Congress that is against anything he wants to do. Just for the sake of it. Right wing haters who are just out for themselves, selfish, not caring for the well being of others. European countries must look at us and wonder what's wrong with us.
Then there's our workaholic culture---in their countries people get WEEKS off from work during the year. They actually get time to be with their families. Here, we have to bargain and work extra just to get a few days off around Christmas or New Years. How can we see our families if we get only ONE or TWO days off? This of all countries where families often live (because of work) thousands of miles away.
The obesity? Usually people connect that with laziness and sloth-like behavior. Sure, it's spreading to other countries thanks to BIG BUSINESS in the USA, and they'll all be obese too. Another valid reason to not like us.
Our Kulture. We no longer produce any that I know of. One look at what's on tv tells you a lot. You can have 400 channels and there's still nothing on. Nothing but boring trash. Most Americans must like it or we wouldn't have it.
Our emphasis on money and greed. Many people aren't content to just live in a normal house and do normal things--they aspire to a huge house that they don't even need, often an ugly McMansion, and they can't have a car, they "need" many cars. BIG cars, not just a normal car. It's all about money so that they can buy more stupid things that they don't even need.
Our children are spoiled and Europeans have told me that they "don't treasure things." They have so much in the way of material goods that they don't even care anymore; it's meaningless.
We eat food that isn't even allowed to enter the European countries, like beef with hormones. They have higher standards, they care about their people.
Our non existing heath care system. How can any country brag about itself when only the rich can afford to get sick? Average people worry constantly about being able to afford medical care and this is a sign of a country that's gone astray. Catering to the very rich --and the rest of the people are just throwaways who exist only to serve the rich (and usually they don't even know it.)
Our educational system is not valued highly--kids aren't learning much these days in school and many can't even spell and can barely read. Illegals who sneaked into the US can go to school for free while American kids suffer the consequences of an underfunded educational system.
Guns. I don't live in a part of the country where this is a problem but many areas are filled with people who believe that they have to carry GUNS to protect themselves. Where do they live? Where are all these people who are going to kill them? I can't imagine. It's one thing to have a gun for hunting but quite another to have one for killing people.
There are a lot of good, decent, respectful Americans who want things to change but lately there seem to be MORE who are like what I described above. They give our country a bad name.
Ill also say in addition to my post from page 1, that theyre really annoyed by our willful ignorance and "American pride." More specifically, being fat, and dumb, and actually being proud of it. Thats what it means to be American these days. The masses are too dumb to realize this country is being pandered to and divided by special interest "news" channels.
Because being fat is associated with being lazy, and not caring about oneself enough to not get fat. Then we complain that airlines and stadiums don't have seats big enough for us, etc.

That president was impeached because he lied under oath (perjury), engaged in witness tampering and obstructed justice. All of those are illegal; it doesn't matter why he lied under oath.
I reserve my "hate" for a very few, very select things.. Why would I feel it towards a country of 300,000,000 people that i've only ever met a tiny proportion of?
Why do some in the US think that those in Europe care enough about them to give them more than a moments thought other than when something is happening in the US that is news worthy in our own countries?

I am from Great Britain been many times to America for holidays( vacations) met some real nice people on my travels but have also met some real ignorant idividuals .
I noticed a comment above how America "Gets things done " what you mean like getting the areas back to some kind of normaility after that terrible storm last week ? so many good decent folk still without electric , with out shelter .
If thats how you get things done well all I can say is you need to try harder .

On one trip to SC I was in a restaurant when one of the waiting staff who was at a guess approx 17 or 18 asked me if we had telephones here in the UK ? no the girl wasn't stupid in fact she was rather inteligent so what on earth do they teach these youngsters in school ?
As I say I have been to AMERICA many times what I have seen of it I like , but like any there are many ignorant people .
