If Madison knew the lack of parenting and good education our youth were getting today, he probably would have worded the Constitution in more definitive terms. What I would like these violent protesters to explain is why they are covering their faces if they don't feel they are doing anything wrong by burning our flag and destroying private property.
Easy, they want to send a political message without damaging their chances at getting a job in the future.
Utter nonsense. No one dies for a piece of cloth. They may die to protect the principles that piece of cloth represents, but in the case of the US flag one of those principles is the right to speak freely and protest that which one sees wrong. And that includes burning the flag.
1) If you are pissed off at something at home or school , do you spit on your Father's or Principal's picture?? Its after all a representation, not themselves right??
I think burning the flag shows extreme disrespect for those who have died for it. Seeing that would turn me against the flag burners themselves and wht ever their cause was.
as an old vet that doesn't necessarily agree with everything the government does, I still think a protesting flag burner should have a foot planted in their ass.
No. its what the flag stands for........among others; Honor,duty,country...............
...Freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, the right to protest, protection of minority rights... the flag is just a symbol & so is the burning of it, or presenting it upside down, etc...
I hope no one thinks they are fighting & dying for a flag any more than they are fighting for the paper that the Constitution is written on - they are fighting for they both stand for: Freedom!
He did not agree with the right to burn flags, and neither do I. You can spin it any way you want to- it's still wrong- period.
I understand that you believe it's wrong.
You need to understand that others of us -- as is obvious by this thread -- believe it is not wrong.
Both sides have their beliefs, and your side is not "the decider". So no -- you can't just say "it's still wrong - period". On both sides it's an opinion.
No, it is deliberately provocative and highly likely to generate emotionally-charged reactions. It's difficult to have a balanced debate about anything when excessive emotion comes into it.
