As an example of rightwing junk think heres phils take on the situation ==
This attitude is what advocates of a cleaner Earth have to deal with..
I know...it's alarming to see people would actually think like that....if you can call it "thinking"...
as I stated to that post, I believe he has some mental health issues
I've been following the mantra "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" for several decades now... so it's hardly the cause of the day for me. I'm concerned about pollution, but recycling just makes sense on a materials level... why waste something that is perfectly reusable?! Lots of folks argue that it's not "cost effective" to recycle. I guess maybe not on a financial statement if you happen to think that we have an infinite supply of natural raw materials to keep making everything new... but in reality, um, no, the Earth and everything on it is a finite resource. Waste not, want not. If we destroy things, waste things, and pollute things eventually we won't have anything to work with... why wait until that happens before doing anything about it?
I'm not talking about gov't mandates and regulations here, I'm talking about personal accountability and responsibility.
We live in a rain forest up here. At the Coho salmon festival this month we had five (5) separate booths dedicated to stream keeping. But put "eco" into your daily life when your parents home is stream front property? Not a chance, baby.
Cigarette butts, bubble gum wrappers, and coffee cups are NOT trash: they're way too close to 'YOU' to be responsible.
note: my dad is a farm boy and if you dropped it there wasn't anyone else around for miles that was going to clean it up but you!

Reason: add idea
I REFUSE to recycle. I drive a gas guzzling SUV too. In fact, as I have said, I do all I can to ruin the environment, etc. I'm leaving the LARGEST carbon footprint I can behind.
Why? I am sick of you left wing liberals, telling me what too do. I eat red meat; not bean sprouts (and no, I am normal weight and normal blood pressure). You want the aluminum cans and bottles out of my garbage? Drag your butt over to my house and seperate it yourself. Has nothing to do with being lazy.
Has to do with: I DONT CARE. I'm sick of you people telling me what to think, how to think, and what to do. Its YOUR choice to recycle; its MY choice not too. If you would quit being so damn militant about it, you might get somewhere.
In fact, I think I might just go dump a load of garbage and that olde loveseat on the highway...
You do realize your gas guzzling SUV enriches enemies of our country don't you? Most of the places we import oil from really do hate us and occasionally do something about it.
I also recycle to reduce our dependence on importing raw materials, I'd rather let locally based Americans re-purpose the materials into something new than import it and add to our trade deficit, but hey, what do I know? I'm just a dumb liberal apparently!
Lets dump love seats and other garbage on our soil to show how much we love and respect America and show dur liburals we meen bizness! Hur hur!
"Help the planet" is a phrase that turns some people off. Why? I have no idea.
Because it's hypocritical. People do things like recycle because they think it benefits them not the planet (which is afterall a ball of rock with no consciousness that neither needs nor understands help) but they want to sound virtuous rather than pragmatic so they say they "help the planet" rather than being plain spoken and saying they're helping themselves.
Now as for those who really think they're helping the planet: well they're even more irritating than the hypocrites; they're zealots with a puffed up sense of importance who think an inanimate object needs their help. Imagine, a planet that's existed for billions of year being helped by some insignificant member of a temporary species. I guess it makes some people feel like they have meaning. Kind'a like religion, eh?
Show me how recycling helps me and keep the finger wagging displays of virtue and neo Pagan planet talk. Let's talk turkey.

Whatever you think this ball of rock is ultimately our only home, not sure how it works in your house but i like my house clean, i like the water from the tap drinkable, i like the air i breath breathable. I dont like rivers and lakes so polluted that they are devoid of life and occasionally catch fire..

Let me tell you, its all about rightwing hate, the environment and anyone who cares about it's good health are scorned and vilified for their environmental positions, you can see the underlying contempt and disdain Irishtom has for his fellow humans who have the audacity to be environmentally concerned.

Fella asked a question and I answered.
I'm a left wing trade unionist who has voted a straight Democratic ticket all my life. And I've probably done more in a pragmatic, day to day way to help the environment than most of the people here; I've done alot more than strike poses on internet forums and seperate my trash. Not that I feel virtuous about it; I had a living to make.
"Save the Planet"....."Help the Planet"......"Mother Earth"......"Turtle Island"......"Care about [insert anything besides money] and what we have are phrases that strike contempt and hatred from certain segments of American society.
As Jambo101 said, this planet is our home, and it's our only home. Personally, I rarely use the above phrases, nor do I insert the word 'care' into my conversations, and reports I write.
Everything on this planet breaks down into chemistry and physics, whether it's living or non-living; carbon based or inorganic. We start producing waste with the first slap to our footsole.
There will always be ways to improve on everything. Some of those improvements will turn out to make things worse in time.
