If it matters to you, Wake Forest Univ Baptist Medical Center has a level 1 trauma rating, Novant (Forsyth) does not.

just so you won't be so confused, Wake Forest School of Medicine was formerly Bowman Gray School of Med.
you will also hear wfubmc called 'baptist hospital'.
forsyth medical center has been owned by novant for several years.
You'll hear it called the other names, cause to us old-timers, it will always be those old names!
wfubmc is also building a new hospital/er in Mocksville which is in Davie county.

My experience when I was trapped in a vehicle after an aa, and was asked which hospital I wanted to go to, I was told "ma'am, I would advise baptist, they have a level 1 trauma unit". I thought why did they even ask me? lol
imo, some people have better feelings about one hospital over the other. both are good but in different ways, obviously. I'm not sure how to word this, but my experience has been that when you find a good md in a certain specialty, whichever hospital they have privileges is the one you will be using and you will like that hospital. but like most non-teaching hospitals, fmc is nicer for the patients.
the deal with women's healthcare is that baptist hospital stopped delivering babies in the early 1970's (I think) to consolidate with forsyth hospital, so the ob/gyn residents see clinical patients at wfubmc and fmc. BUT, the nicu is at wfubmc. fmc does have an intermediate care nursery, thus the ped residents visit fmc also. confused yet?
