Thanks. Yes. My wife has been writing about the incident. Warren Zee
Care to give us a link? The reason on "why" is relevant to us, and none of us will recommend carrying a lethal weapon, for legal reasons if nothing else, if it's not intended for a self-defense (i.e. - crime where you're life is in danger) situation. It would be irresponsible of us. Carrying a gun takes a level of responsibility - a knowledge of gun laws, gun safety, proper equipment, proper training.
As someone said, situational awareness is the first part of self-defense. Meaning, don't get yourself into a dangerious situation in the first place.
Your post is confusing as well because it mentions a shotgun, which is obviously not a carry weapon.
Before you do ANYTHING else, you need to LEARN about guns - their proper carry, legal use and how they function. Without all 3 of those items, you're likely to end up with more problems than you'll resolve. Google for local gun forums in your state, introduce yourself and ask for input/suggestions/help. Here in Texas, I'm on a number of local boards where we routinely meet up and have informal shoots, and folks routinely come out to try the various guns to see what works best for *them*, and use both the meets AND the forum to gain better insight into the other issues of training, familiarization, and such.
Get aquainted with your state firearms association and training opportunities though IDPA (International Denfensive Pistol Association) clubs in your area. About the Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association
pumping the bad guys full of lead is not the end of your problems its the beginning. have u considered speaking about the multiple assaults in the last 3 days to the police???
killing some people will stop the immediate problem but create many more. do not do not get a gun and think by showing it to them they will run away, horrible beginner mistake.
never produce a weapon without the clear intention of using it. the chances are with our lousy justice sytem if u use that gun, u will go to jail and those who attacked u will be free.
As far as I can tell this is the link to the OP's situation, it takes awhile to get into the cause of the assualt, which appears to be related to neighbor disputes (scum bag neighbors, from what I can tell). I don't know why the OP and the other poster kept it as some sort of mystery. I only got to the 3rd page or so.
To the OP: all of us here are, of course, in favor of gun ownership for self defense and as a self-evident right. But in this case, I don't think guns are the answer. I'm not saying don't get one, but what I am saying is don't get one from what I presume you intend to use it for. In this case, producing a gun will escalate the situation and most probably result in you being put in jail. If you plan to get a gun and use it to defend yourself against your neihbors you need to produce it for one reason, not to display it to say "hey I have a gun, get off my property", but to put them into the ground dead. And if you do that, you better be sure that your life is in immenent danger (i.e. they have a weapon, not just fists). There is such a thing as disparity of force, but know the law. Anything else will 1.) land you or your husband in jail, 2.) subject family to lawsuits.

Worth repeating. Get police reports, file assault charges, and go to court to get orders of protection in place. Consider exterior video security cameras.
Do everything by the book with LE involved. When crime comes from one complex LE has the ability to make it very uncomfortable for the property owner.

This has all to do with protecting my family. I was assaulted twice in four days and living in the commonwealth of Pa. they could not arrest the perps, so we are basically left alone on an island, with no protection. I wanted to get an opinion on getting a carry permit OR getting the personal protection shotgun for the home. The second assault took place on my front porch, which in my state is part of my Castle.

Personally, I would go with the shotgun for now. Keep it inside of the home for home defense. Don't go all Clint Eastwood and take it to the porch to threaten and escalate the situation. Don't show your cards by allowing predators to know you are armed lest they target your home/firearm for theft to use against you.
Personal protection means layers of security. A security video camera will go a long way in identifying those trespassing to cause damage/harm and may help result in an arrest. It will give LE actual evidence from which to work.
Really sorry this is happening and that you didn't check out the home and street better before buying your house. If you can sell I'd place moving as a priority for the protection of your family.
...just point out the irony. He started the post in the city forums and many there were saying "get a gun and blow them away" (in so many words)....and here we are, the ones labeled as zeolous gun nuts by others, being responsible and saying "wait, think gun laws, safety, and moral responsiblities before you own and use a firearm".
That's as it should be of course, but funny how it plays against stereotypes.
