What pistol do you use and do you believe in keeping a round in the chamber, whether by carrying or keeping at home, or do you rack the slide before using the pistol?
Glock 27, Kahr E9, S&W Shield, all with a round in the chamber, the one gun I do not keep a round under the hammer is my North American 22 Magnum mini revolver, that I often carry in my pocket, and while NA says you can carry it on the half notch position between rounds with 5 rounds, I prefer to keep an empty chamber for the hammer to rest on, just my personal preference since that is not the kind of firearm to get into a gunfight with, so if I cannot do the job in one or two rounds, then it really would not matter anyway.
Yes because an unloaded gun is a paperweight.
I have no children or grandchildren and never any children in my home.
People who own guns should keep them locked up so children can never access them because they will find them.
STI Elektra, carried C1 24/7. I actually own a pair, on the off chance that I have to use it, it will be held as evidence. I can go home, get the spare and have the exact same gun on my hip.
Of course I keep a round in the chamber, I am not willing to add extra risk to my life if I need to pull a gun out to take the extra few seconds to rack the slide.

And also, those two seconds are enough for an assailant to cover thirty or forty feet.
If he's already closer than that to you--and they always try to get as close as possible before letting you know their intentions--you're likely to be in a close-contact situation by the time you even draw your firearm.
