Not sure if it's the same thing or not but I've been nailed maybe once every 6 weeks since last summer by a cold or flu. I haven't been sick this many times in maybe 20 years. And I'm in my 40's now.

Same here. I've had the cold 2x this winter. Bronchitis kicked in big time after the cold. Have been sick half of the winter. Rarely catch colds.

Everyone I know who's had it says it's the worst cold ever.

Yep, this is one nasty cold, for sure. I'm over the worst of the coughing, I think, but the ears and nose are still clogged up. And my sense of taste is still missing in action. Don't you hate that? Takes the pleasure right out of eating. Made some spicy fish chowder tonight that my husband said was good, but you couldn't tell by me.

Day 5 of the crud for me. It seems to be making the rounds here.

I've coughed so much my ribs feel like I volunteered their use as a heavy punching bag in a gym populated by large individuals with serious anger issues.

Not using antibiotics as I believe it's viral and there are as yet no signs of secondary infection. The primary alone is seriously whipping my butt.

This is some seriously nasty crap bordering on evil. I've resorted to chasing Nyquil with Maker's Mark in the hope I can by and large remain unconscious until it's over.

Outbacknv, lol, your cure sounds good. And your efinition right on...this is the most evil cold I've ever had, too. I've been taking cough medicine followed by Breathe Easy tea with a shot of blackberry brandy following by a PM pain pill so I can sleep...

20 days.

Antibiotics do not seem to work. I think it is a virus, therefore antibiotics will do nothing but dehydrate you.

No kidding, I'm usually very strong immune wise, but this year this immensely strong strain of cold is kicking my tale. For some strange reason this is the second go around in about four months. Yes it feels like flu.but it's just a really bad cold..every joint in my body is aching, sniffles, running nose, head , no fever but good lord every thing else, stingy itchy eyes, scratchy raw throat, soar chest and ribs, general overall malaise. I'm sure plenty of rest and fluids is essential and more than likely help but it sure doesn't feel like it, good luck and yes wash, waswashh, wash those nasty germs off

Be careful with those ear symptoms. I lost some of the hearing in my left ear after one of these "colds" that hung on for a couple of weeks.
