when was the last time you had a full physical exam and blood tests? if i had nightly itching for months, i would make an appointment with my doctor.
I have blood tests and other labs every month, (a requirement at the addiction doctor I see), They tell me all my labs are normal. I have a physical every year, its coming up in August.
I have asked my doctors about this, they told me Suboxone (and all narcotics) can cause itching, but to take an anti-histamine to counter act it...Ive tried ump teen different anti histamines and none provide any relief. My addiction doctor does not think the itching is Subxone related though, he said if this were the case, I would be itching constantly, and all over, it would not let up.
Plus, in the days when I was using Heroin and other illegal narcotics, I didnt have this itching problem. It didnt start when I began taking Suboxone either, it was years later.
Weather has turned very warm this week. Take a shower to remove oils and flaking skin, hot or warm first then cold to reduce the itchiness. If you're itching due to dry skin, put on regular baby lotion to moisturize the skin after the shower. This is similar to the caregiving process of daily bathing - shower or hand wash, apply moisturizer, and apply skin protectant like A-D barrier cream.
Unexplained itchiness can be caused by liver disease or too much alcohol consumption over time.
Recovering alcoholic here. I have been sober since late August of last year, but your post explains a lot. I'm hoping the itching diminishes as my liver repairs itself. Codeine also makes me itch and I haven't used that for years. Thanks a lot for posting!
Check with your doctor. It is probably just a skin thing, but liver issues can also cause itching, especially on the legs. If you haven't had basic bloodwork done recently, you should probably do that.
ETA: Didn't realize there was a second page of posts and that my suggestions have already been covered!
Itching kept me up for close to 3 hours yesterday!
The weird thing is, I itch a little bit during the day in these spots, (legs, top part of feet, arms, behind the knees...and front of knees NOW!), but in the hours leading up to bedtime, Im not that itchy...
But when I lay down in bed...give it about 30 minutes and I start to get itchy and from there it gets BAD for a couple hours and then dies down for the most part.
Its a very weird itchiness too...example, it usually starts with the top of my feet, I start feeling 'itchy' and I scratch....as soon as ive satisfied that itch, another part of body will immediately need to be itched, this will go on an on! Plus, its not like itching my feet once is good enough...they will start being itchy again after about 10-15 minutes from scratching them.
I thought it may be the laundry soap, but Ive been using fragrance free for awhile and have tried numerous brands of soap, nothing really helped.
I then thought maybe I was itching from getting too warm under the covers, so I stopped using a blanket...nope, still the same.
I do not have bed bugs either, we checked for that and do check periodically to make sure they are not the cause.
I have to get this under control, Im only getting 3-4 hours sleep a night and its been tough.
Go buy a bottle of CeraVe or Cetaphil anti-itch cream and a jar of vaseline. Put some vaseline in your hand and a squirt of the anti-itch medicine, rub it on the itchy places. If that doesn't work, buy a bottle of benadryl and take one before you go to bed, if that doesn't work ask your doctor to prescribe Hydroxizine. But if you have lesions you should probably get a consult with dermatology.

when tops of feet get itchy (i used to get that frequently)
immediately run them under cold water.
sit on the edge of the tub, turn on the faucet and blast them with cold water.
my skin is sensitive to soaps and detergents too, sometimes even from the scent (like in the laundry room ) i have a reaction.
i agree feet and legs are most sensitive. i have found that NOT sleeping with bare legs and feet helps, i.e. wearing socks and pajama bottoms.
best thing is: running cold water. i have not had it happen now for a fairly long time.
i also avoid synthetic fabrics, they tend to be more aggravating. the more cotton the better.
PS for all the posts mentioning alcohol, i don't drink at all, and haven't had any alcohol for the past 40+ years
