You don't want to use the vacuum attachment with the motor on the wood. We use the attachment that looks like an oval shaped broom with an opening in the center. It is so easy to use on the wood floors (much easier than the electric vacuum I have that is made for wood or laminate floors, which I used in my old house). Even my husband likes to do the floors!

How much do these central vac systems cost? I know that will be something that will be offered to be a few months from now when my house is being built. I heard it was ~$5k from a friend and I can't imagine paying that much for a vacuum cleaner no matter how convenient it is! Also, since it goes in the walls, where does the dirt end up?

As an upgrade at our place, it is $2100, not sure exactually what it includes though. Im assuming the instalation, the product and hopefully some basic attachments, but I won't find that out till we actually do our selections. As far as I understand it there is a tubing system throughout the house in the walls and then it ends up in a central location like your garage or basement which you need to clean out the filter regularly(every couple of months, I think)

I can't remember how much ours was without looking at my documents, but it wasn't cheap! I am thinking maybe $3500 - $4000, but we have a large house. I was having a hard time deciding to get this too at the cost, but I am now glad I did. We have a 30 foot hose. One outlet is supposed to cover approximately 700 square feet, so that is how they determine how many outlets you get. You should get the complete kit included in the price (not a car vac kit though). The canister is in our garage.

Love mine. Would not be without it. And we store the hoses in utility closets on each floor now. I use it for anything, great suction.

Their is another thread on this - believe it was moved to the "House" forum.

try the link below:

We have one. We really do like it, but we will mostly be hardwoods soon so it won't be as important.

I do really like it though.
