That's not the reason they're bums. There were bums before gentrification.

I've heard that one in four cities so far.

I agree we should never lower our windows to give money or anything to these people. Not only because it's really not helping the person, but it's a safety issue - you may be more vulnerable for a carjacking, etc. If they want your help, go and donate to the many charitable organizations that cater to homeless.

A friend of a friend is a psychiatrist and a few years ago told me that working on the Pacific NorthWest with many homeless people...they make over $900 a week! That's very good money, tax free.

I ran my errands and was asked at each place for some $$$.

Someone needs tell all the gullible, post college d-bags there to #1 grow a pair, and #2 stop giving their parents' money to idiots with a fake sob story. Once those issues are taken care of, watch your problem disappear.

The most irritating being approached by a "bum" who looks stronger and healthier than you.

Really though, Midtown- what do you expect? This has been a very longstanding problem.

How about the church panhandlers. Seen them numerous times in Clear Lake... usually teams of four carrying coffee cans working all four directions of traffic at major intersections. No, I'm not going to give you money to build a 300 ft tall cross or buy your pastor another $1000 suit.

I haven't seen those guys in awhile. The operation never seems legit to me; you never can tell where that money is going to.

Lately I have seen more beggars with signs on the intersections at I-45.
