Beyond the obvious.. for example I noticed San Antonio has alot of customer service jobs and call center jobs, and obviously Austin has all of the internet stuff. For Houston I stumbled across the Home Builder Industry. By going to Indeed.com and typing in all the various home builders it seems we would have quite a few jobs and companies to choose from. I had no idea this was an industry here (although of course it makes sense once you think about it). Energy sounds too stuffy for me so I was glad to find this out. What else that is below the radar is a good industry?

We currently live in Los Angeles - My husband works in the video game industry and can branch into customer service, fraud investigator, or sales, etc. and I work for an internet company, I could go into a few different types of positions like HR, Administrative Assistant, Analyst, Online Marketing, Online Content Management, etc. we're used to really relaxed companies and great benefits.

Aerospace - over 10,000 employed.

There is at least one video game company based in Houston but I forget the name. Lots of internet companies like HostGator and CPanel.

I bet taco trucks are a bigger industry than tourism in Houston.

Sometimes restaurant and hotel jobs and similar service industries are categorized under the umbrella of tourism... that may be why.

Default Tech, shipping, real estate

The oil industry requires High Tech so that is another industry. Please do not forget the Shipping/port industry $15billion that is a huge one. Real estate development $9billion/yr, we are the second largest real estate development metro in the country next to New York.

Seems like you and your husband might do better in Austin with your backgrounds.

Golfing. I know that a lot of foreigners especially Japanese when I was working at one would fly to play on our TPC course. Another Houston attraction are rodeo, sports and concerts. And when we had NASA, I think every visitors of mine have asked to go. Food is our strength, beauty is our weakness.
