S.O.S. Ex-Californian in Texas suffering for good Mexican food. Tex-Mex and other manifestations calling itself Mexican food here in Houston. Try asking for the following in Houston or in Texas and see the looks you get
1. Carne asada tacos like Taqueria de Anda in La Habra Ca.
2. a "Wet" burrito or burrito "mojado"
3. Enchilada with enchilada sauce and melted cheese....not chili or a sort of enchilada sauce and nacho cheese...puke.
4. How about some refried beans with some great flavor!!!
5. Hot sauce that makes me want to come back.
6. Anyone in Texas ever heard of shredded beef? You know like El Toreo in Palmdale Ca.

Oh If only I could have El Azteca on Beach blvd or Flora Mexican restaurant in Victorville ca or Rositas in barstow here in Texas.

WHERE CAN I GET GOOD MEXICAN IN HOUSTON!!!!!

I really don't get it. I'm from ca too and the "mexican" food here does not taste like the Mexican food in ca...I guess we can only get ca mexican food in ca and here it's tx mexican... But I really wish I could have some tacos from king taco in el monte... Yum! Sorry op, I still haven't found anything similar so I just gave up.

I gave up trying to find good "Mexican" food around here so It's Chipotle from now on for me. Most of the stuff you find it's nasty, greasy, and can make you sick (thank you Ruchi's).

Here you go....a link to broaden your horizons about the real world and all the different variations of food. As noted there are few places in the United States that serve Mexican Food - There are regional American variations of Mexican food.... Mexicali (what you are use to and requesting information about) is one and Texmex is another...there are more. Mexican Food

Absolutely true. Having been raised here, I remember visiting Santa Fe as a child and being amazed at the "weird Mexican food!" I learned that different states have different "Mexican food."

I agree that California Mexican food is fantastic. I have not found it in Texas. It does exist in Mexico - and yet, I have never found Tex-Mex in Mexico.

I will recommend this though:

El Taco Tote Mexican Grill Restaurant | USA Locations

It's on Westheimer close to the Greenbriear intersection. I grew up on this.
