Missouri City and Westchase are also good areas.

Ranchstyle...it is not so much the cost of gas (ouch! that should still be a factor) but the traffic congestion and time it takes to get from one point to another that you should also consider in your commute distance from home to work. I am not kidding when I say it can take as much as an 1 and 1/2 hours to get from one side of Houston to the other or one suburb to another during rush hour especially if you do not know the roads. Now that is extreme, but it can happen to the uninformed or unprepared. 45 min to an hour is much more than norm but wise planning can cut that to 30 minutes.

But then you go into the single family, residental neighborhoods and you get the opposite.

Hi ranchstyle if you go to the link in data city forum the Texas link. It will bring up a list of towns. Click on the town you are interested in. It will then give you a break down of percentage of a particular ethnic group in the community. For example, Missouri City is 38% African American, 38% Caucasian, 10% Hispanic and I am not sure what the percentage is for other ethnic groups. You will find that in the Houston area the groups that exist are African American, Caucasian, Asian and Hispanic. I don't think Houston has a large Arab population or Indian population like NYC and NJ. Normally the ethnic groups in the schools reflect the population. I am not recommending Missouri City by using this city as an example. The diversity is fine but only 2 out of 13 elementary schools the kids are doing well. It seems that the 2 schools I am talking about are for the Sienna Plantation Subdivision. I am renting there for now but will buy near the Houston area because I am not pleased with the school system. You can privately email me because I am still researching areas as a new person in Texas.

You would be surprised.

And aren't they counted as white in most demographic counts?
