Probably a lot of stereotyping in either the "country redneck" or the "ganbanger" type when it comes to whole neighborhoods. Most people who live in rural areas are pretty nice and most people who live in the "inner city" areas are too.

Im referring to Alief, which in my experience is much trashier and more ghetto than anything I ever saw in Katy.

Have you ever even lived anywhere outside of Katy to make such an inaccurate remark? How many times have you actually been in Alief?

The desirable area of Alief (north of Westpark Tollway) is only 5 minutes away from Energy Corridor, whereas north Katy is at least 20 minutes away without any traffic on IH-10, rush hour is a nightmare.

Considering Alief is in close proximity to the Energy Corridor, Westchase, Westheimer/Richmond corridors, Westpark Tollway, Beltway 8, I-69, Chinatown, Memorial/City Center, and the Galleria, Alief has a lot more potential than north Katy will ever have and Alief has a higher probability of gentrifying due to convenient location.

Alief has a very diverse and unique identity with it’s very own management district (International District), north Katy on the other hand is a typical generic farther out suburb located in an insignificant location and isn’t close to anything significant other than IH-10.

Alief also has higher property values compared to north Katy. There are houses selling for millions of dollars in north Alief. North Katy doesn’t even have a country club community with million dollar homes.

Alief encompasses a very large area. You would have to be a bit more specific...There are both trashy and very nice areas in Alief - just like anywhere else.

It’s like saying Katy is ghetto without dividing the north and south parts.

Katy is geographically far from Houston, Alief is closer in. Technically speaking both areas are worlds apart. I personally would rather live closer-in and not waste my life on a long commute.

I lived in North Katy only because of a shorter commute And I traveled other direction for work.
I recently saw brand new developments north of Clay Rd. This area is getting fully packed. Insanely cookercutterish. But south of Clay Rd it is not that bad actually. And to be on a positive side, I like part of North Katy between Morton Rd and Clay Rd, near Mason Rd. That side of North Katy is pretty decent.

North of Clay is Cy Fair. Those schools are not as highly ranked as south of Clay or Katy ISD. That may have to do with the desirability.

South North Katy (south of Clay Rd) is already pretty much built up. Not sure if there is any empty land left. North North Katy (north of Clay Rd) is still growing. Massive new construction! They started adding industrial areas next to the residential developments.

If it's Cy-fair ISD, I consider it Cypress. If it's Katy ISD, I call it Katy. The area in question is actually unincorporated Harris county. You can put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.

If the official mailing address is Katy, I call it Katy. Otherwise there will be a lot of confusion.

Default Katy/Alief no comparison at all.

After spending hours doing research I have concluded that Katy and Alief are not comparable in any way at all.
In almost every Social, Economic,Educational Achievement, Demographics, Crime etc. In all categories Katy stands a world apart from Alief. Keep in mind that 77036 is in the Alief area. So is 77099.

A better comparison for the Katy area would be Cypress. Alief compares better to the Aldine area which is close to Cypress in the same way that Alief is near Katy.
