Boy I'd love to read a real narrative piece about these yahoos and their background and the larger scene of these redneck enclaves...maybe Texas Monthly would do something like that...or even the Houston Press?
Has anyone read anything substantive yet (probably too soon) in any media? The Chronicle will cover all the court stuff as it happens...but I keep wondering what "creates" the people with this mindset.

In the meantime, I'll cross Liberty County off any weekend road trips!

Thanks to the Horn case these yahoos think it is ok to kill innocent children if they believe them to be trespassing. These people are most likely doped up and not the brightest bulb. Reading a story like Horn's (if they can read) fuels their redneck ways.
The authorities are probably trying to make sure if they were trespassing or not. Considering the Grand Jury letting off Horn they probably want to make sure they have it really clear.

Liberty County is part of the Houston metro on the very far E-NE outskirts. This place is maybe 50 miles from downtown, off old Beaumont Hwy (90). As mentioned here there are a lot of nice homes out that way (on the edge of the Piney Woods) but there is also some real trash, too. The meth head comment is probably spot on.
That's like saying Galveston is part of the Houston Metro because it is only 50 miles from downtown Houston.. Liberty is not part of the Houston Metro.

And I hope those scumbags spend the rest of their lives in prison...

What they did had nothing do with the Castle Doctrine so they should go to jail for no less than 40 years. We can hope for longer tho...

The U.S. Census Bureau defines Liberty County as in the Houston area.

Yep:

Greater Houston - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is the E-NE county that shares a border with Harris. Any county that shares a border with Harris is part of the metro. I don't really consider it Houston area either, but I didn't draw the borders.
