No, that's exactly what it means.

I use to be a caseworker for Section 8 and yes there are some crappy tenants but not all of them.

I have seen many people take the time they have assistance to buy their own home, go to school and better themselves. Just because people aren't at a high point in their lives doesn't mean they don't "deserve" to live in nice areas.
i dont think anyone is accusing/assuming they are BAD PEOPLE on this thread, but more section 8 is a property value KILLER! now the reason it is such, people in the general public DO assume they are bad people. in all honesty, if i lived in a million dollar home, and section 8 housing was proposed in my close proximity (leading to lower value) i would fight it till i win or lose, and if i lose i would more then likely sell as quickly as possible to get the highest value i can out of my property. this is my view of the situation anyway.

Not all section 8 residents are bad.

For example, I had a neighbor who was on a section 8 voucher for a while but soon got her life & her familly back on track.

After she was on section 8 & welfare for a while with her 4 kids, she received assistance from the government to go back to school to further her education. Now she's a public school teacher & owns her own single family home with her kids.

But there are some section 8 residents who can bring a community down.

A relative of mine lived in a high-rise gated condo development for 12 years.
The community was nice until back in 2002, some of the condo owners started leasing to section 8 tenants.
This community went down hill very fast because as soon as the section 8 families moved in, my relative notice an increase in loitering in front of the building, graffitti inside the hallways, bugs, & a decrease in property value.

As I said before, not all section 8 residents are bad people but a lot of them can bring "riff-raff" to a community.

Well I pray nothing ever happens to you or anyone in your family that you won't ever need anything.

Yes I totally agree with you. It's unfortunate that many landlords don't screen their tenants before renting. I ran into this situation on a constant basis.....I would always ask the landlord if they did any research before renting and they told me "no". I guess you get what you put into it.

I used to live right next to a section 8 apartment complex. They put them everywhere, even in very nice area I lived in. There were countless car break-ins and burglaries etc. Wouldn't do it again.
I wouldn't mind one or 2 resisdent in my subdivision, but a section 8 apartment complex is a different story... Good thing I didn't live in a house there and was able to move easily.

So, it's the landlord's fault that his tenants are thugs?

No it's their fault if they didn't find out about their tenants before they rented to them. They can run a criminal background check and the "thug" would've been discovered.

Equal oppourtunity for everyone to live in a nice neighborhood, please lets not go there. No one wants to live in the "hood" forever. Also you don't know the situation this or that person is in, ultimate judge.
