Then it was sold to the folks who own The Station in Madison and renamed it to Inside/Out Grill. They gutted it two different times and tried to turn it into a sports bar. They ended up failing, I think because they were too focused on trying to make it a bar and that is not the place for a bar.

Once they closed then it was called Texas Smokehouse, or something like that. Took forever for it to open, then was closed just as quickly.

Sat empty for a while then Wingzilla came in. Also took forever to open up. But they redid the inside by removing the big bar in the middle.
You are 100% correct.

I tried to eat at Texas Smokehouse, but the line was TOO long and not moving quickly, so I left, then abruptly it closed and it's Huntsville location too.

I heard it was good, but something major had to happen for it to just die like that.

Went by the location in front of Publix in Athens again today. The layout makes a lot more sense considering that the building will have multiple tenants now. Without stopping and looking, at best guess, it looks like there will be a total of 3, maybe 4 businesses in the spot. The space seems kind of small in relation to the amount of parking, but that's just me....unless there is a decent anchor there.

Well Bill Ming's latest strip mall has a Firehouse Subs, a Dollar Tree, and a haircut place - next to the Walmart on 72 in Athens.

Sweet, I'll finally be able to take advantage of the free sub on my birthday for lunch!

Nice summary Maya B. but you missed one incarnation that was at that location in the period between Texas Smokehouse and Wingzilla. A wing restaurant called Charley's Wings opened not too long after TS closed and remained open for about 6-8 months. I ate there once and the wings were edible. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Took forever to get your food and to get refills, etc. I tried Texas Smokehouse once and thought the barbecue was very subpar compared to other barbeque joints in the area. No surprise to me that they closed relatively quickly.

I forgot all about the Charley's. Never stepped foot in there, which is probably why I forgot about it.

Seth,

Any idea of what is being built next to Staples and behind PNC in Athens?

Yesterday was the first time that I had actually seen it. In too much of a hurry to check it out more in-depth. I'll have to ask around and see if anyone knows.
