What I haven't seen are folks I thought I would- the ones who need work so desperately they are moving on rumors of work in other states.

I saw a lot of this here in the 2000s- I.F. folks moving to the oilfields in the Dakotas and Wyoming. Not now, though.

I suspect there are un-obvious reasons why the ultra-wealthy are choosing to live here. I don't know what they are, but the reasons are possibly identical to the middle class- a better quality of living.

The rich folks I've met so far all appreciate Idaho's classless society. No one cares how rich a person here is until someone tells them, and that's something really wealthy people seem to like.
Pokey has alot of building going on too and would appear to be the go to place for all of your shopping/amenities/medical needs. Yet you could be just live outside the boundary to avoid some of that development.

COMPASS estimates that the Boise Metropolitan Area's population increased by nearly 24,000 people this past year. The population estimates for only Ada and Canyon Counties is now around 762,000. This number does not include the population growth of the other counties that make up the Metro Area.

In 2019, the Boise-Mountain Home-Ontario CSA population was near 812,000. With this kind of growth the CSA population is knocking on the 1,000,000 mark sooner than later.

...and the Boise area collectively breathes a sigh of relief.

In some ways you are, as the Magic Valley is part of the greater Boise media market.

You must like Portland as well I take it? Na, the folks near me are NOTHING like what those moving to Boise are. Which I'm thankful for and they would seem to agree.

I'm not familiar with a "media market" being used as a gauge for "lifestyle choice" as dcisive implied. Can you provide references to such? Serious question here, I'm open to learning new things.

Only for now.
Do not expect it to last forever. Too many folks are moving in from other places, and they are all bringing a pocketful of change with them.
One isn't going to change much. But 1,000 will, and 10,000 will make big change happen faster than you can boil asparagus.

Well said.

It is dissapointing to see that some of the people who move here and aren't Idahoans, come here with a chip on their shoulders and pass judgment on peolple who have lived here for years, even generations.

I recently read Idaho got 24,000 new residents in 2020.

In a state of only 2 million, that's a big addition.
