Remember the 1970s? There were very few illegal immigrants in America. High School kids worked at fast food and most products consumed in America was made in America. Factory work paid well and a manufacturing worker could support his family in a good middle class lifestyle.
I remember another thing about the 1970s though, very high inflation. Does anyone else think that millions of illegal (and legal) immigrants who will work for very little money (along with cheap goods from overseas) may be a reason there is far less inflation today.
Kick out the illegal aliens and bring back inflation?
I wish someone would explain to me how this country ever flourished and grew in the post Great Depression years without illegal aliens. I mean, how did we ever survive before the invasion from the south?

Back then I believe it was only the rich who had access to a good education. Hence the overwhelming work labor work force which built the beloved Golden Gate Bridge.
The situation is much more complex than simply a choice between cheap illegal labor and Chinese imports holding down inflation. The single major inflationary item that effects our economy is our national debt and unbalanced budget.
If anything illegal aliens sending billions of US dollars to Mexico and the US consumers sending billions of dollars to China in the manner we have weakens our dollar. The only reason we really haven't seen prices drastically increase is that the Japanese and Chinese have been holding down the value of their currency. Which is really self-serving to themselves because it allows them to continue to suck US dollars out of our economy.
Uneducated, illiterate illegal aliens in the work force allow businesses and corporations to report a much higher profit due to the decrease in labor expense. Which contributes to our overall GDP. But because they are such a huge drain on social services, commit so many crimes, and burden American families with decreased wages they actually contribute very little to our economy, and are in all actuality a huge burden on our society. If anything, illegal aliens in the work force are a major cause of the middle class in America shrinking.

Really, and that is why my father's mother--a mere immigrant woman from Scotland was able to come to the states, work hard, save money, go to college and send her children there as well.
I guess they must have spent up all of the millions before all of my generation came along.
My parents were farmers and my Father went into the factories in the late '60's. They had 10 children. I remember the '70's ( I was there). With just my Da working they were able to own a house and though we were far from wealthy, we all had educational advantages, food, health insurance, clothing and occasional vacations as well as regular outings. I would go back to the '70's economy in a heartbeat.
