The reason it became headline news is because the family in Guatemala sued the hospital. They lost.
That was truly a sad case but the bottom line is that man wasn't supposed to be here where it became our problem. I am sure there are people being hit by cars in Guatelama too. We have our social service network for a reason and one of them isn't "because I want it". How long would our tax money last if we let 1 billion poor run over our border.

Umm...what happens in the rest of the world is our concern btw, AZ. If we as a society desire to survive, we need to take the third world into consideration. In the long run, the developing nations are going to be the next economic giants. We live in a global society, 19th century means of thinking are not going to work AZ. Also, it's not "Black" Africa...it's sub-Saharan Africa.
Oh we understand your post all right. What you want is complete Socialism where those that are successful and work hard need to be ripped of their assets and have it shared with people less fortunate. Those less fortunate because their Parents had them though they couldn't afford them. Those less fortunate because they live where there is an oppressive Govt. Ya, it's our fault all of that is happening.

I have a question, have you turned over all your assets to some random Illegal Alien yet? No, I didn't think so.

The extremely poor can't afford many benefits on medicaid. It's not a carte blanche.

No...you don't get it. You are extrapolating too much. Did I mention socialism? I don't think I mentioned anything about companies being government run...

Let me just say that I believe that we need an option for the poor to survive. Living in Southern California, I see all too often the middle class being edged out, and it's not by the poor illegal immigrants. It's simply too expensive to live in Orange County, San Diego County, LA, and Ventura. Parts of the IE are still too expensive (although this economic downturn has provided a respite). Why? Well, poor lending practices, greedy home builders, and speculators are more than half to blame. They all are rich. Being wealthy in itself is not a bad thing, but being wealthy and wanting to give a portion back to the system that made you that way is selfish.

Hell, as a teen I worked at Coldstone to send $200 to Darfur. Even now, while I'm poor as a joke, I still donate (not as much, but I still donate). It's because I feel that this world has given so much to me, that I feel responsible for at least helping a person that doesn't have as much.

And yes, we are responsible for helping many corrupt regimes for business interests.

So you believe that those less fortunate should never have kids? So you think that we should ultimately live in a Socially Darwinist society?

Poor people are poor for a myriad of factors. You imply that they are poor due to laziness. This really is disgusting how many people in the nation truly admire being ripped off by those with power, then blame the people with the least amount of power and influence.

And some people perceive the phrase 'Sub Saharan Africa' as racist as well so get over it, please.

As for the rest of your post: it is the responsibility of the Third World to make the necessary cultural changes AKA Darwinism at work--------------not us wealthy nations throwing good money after bad at 'em.

No nobody does...again ignorance your part...

How can the developing world succeed if people like you continue to exist in believing that our unfair mass consumption, our unfair trade system, our unfair "aid" policies (Jamaica, Argentina, Venezuala...are a testament to this), our unfair wars, our unfair way we help maintain regimes for personal gain (most of African nations...France enters into wars that they need not be in for economic gain). Look, face it, we are not angels in the West. We do many things that destroy the developing world. We may send aid, but with stupid restrictions. My favorite example is aid money to combat AIDS in Africa...but abstinence only education must only be provided. Billions of dollars wasted on a program that, suprise, suprise, didn't work. Jamaica was told by the IMF that in order to obtain aid money, they would have to open up their textile industry to outside competition. They did and it resulted in massive job loss and an economic downturn. Several African nations were told by the IMF to liberalize agriculture. The result was food shortages since the only crops planted were for cash crops (cacao and coffee).

The West is not enemy number 1, but we aren't angels either.

we need to stop all aid to other countries. their problems are not ours problems. This we need to save the world thinking didn't start till after WWII it needs to stop.Illegals are breaking the law and have no right to be here.3rd world countries have problems because they cause them with bad leadership for one example. socailism may look good in theroy. But it doesn't work in practice. All it does is take and take till theirs nothing left to take.Bottom line WE need to only worry about our country.

America!!!!!!!!! Boy howdy!!!!!!!! Right, and predatory capitalism works? There were many advocates prior to WWII (hence decolonialism). Regardless of the fact that we in fact have stated that we are partly to blame, you still think that we are completely innocent? I pray for America.

Didn't say were innocent of anything.you act like we own a never ending debt. The west has done enough to correct the wrong. we been doing this for over 60yrs now.If they can't help themselves by now they never will. The west needs to realize what works for us will not work for others. This whole thing of they do it in Europe may be fine for Europe are system is different than theirs. Socialism in Europe is draging them down. they are in deep debt. Their guilt trip needs to stop before they are no more. To add even france is cracking down on illegals most of Europe is in a very harsh way. NO such thing as predatory capitlism. Sorry some just can't make it. Just part of life.

If we continue our practices in the same manner, then it is never ending (since we never ended our exploitation).

Why are you bringing in socialism? Yeah there is such thing as predatory capitalism...If you exploit and unfairly obtain resources (in a predatory fashion) then that is predatory capitalism.

Also, European countries were the first Western nations out of this crisis BTW. Whereas, we have a debt to GDP ratio than Western European nations.
