Here is a secret the thousands upon thousands who left may not know. Until NASDAQ, CBOT and Illinois' thirty other Fortune 500 companies move to Indiana the state will not collapse financially -- regardless of what the prognosticators predict, or how the media twists old news into new, or how bankrupt all Illinois pensions are. It has not been a big secret for a very long time. Chicago is a very fluid city as most mega cities are. People come; people go. Few people notice; even less people give a damn.

One has to wonder what Illinois offers new business that convinced a successful, nearly 100 year old, mining company in Idaho (and most of its staff) to move its corporate offices to Chicago? This is the kind of stuff that is talked about in business or tech news, not in social media or in yellow journalism. Yellow Journalism Law & Legal Definition

Yet I notice you didn't actually link to the article about the mining company.

Sure, my articles with data from the US Census Bureau are Yellow Journalism, but you haven't posted any articles at all.

What about these companies that have left Chicago:

Three Companies That Have Moved Out of Illinois*|*Reboot Illinois

Tipping Point: Businesses crossing state lines for cheaper cost - FOX 32 News Chicago

Office Max: Office Max to begin move out of Illinois in April | Chicago

These Illinois companies left the state

Here's one from Forbes:

Illinois' Population And AGI Continue To Plummet Under Democratic Legislature

This isn't the place to bicker between two posters. You both have said your peace; if neither of you have something constructive to add to the OP, then just let sleeping dogs lie.

I wrote about the mining company when the deal was made; look in my posts.

Steak n' Shake has not been family owned since the 1960s. I remember when that happened. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steak_%27n_Shake

Jelly Belly moved to CA after WW1.

Eureka was born in Detroit in 1909 and came to B-N in 1945 where it merged and was sold in 1953. In 1974 it was sold to its current parent company of Sweden. It ws moved to NC four years ago.

It is easy enough to research company history, and its fun.

LoL I broke out of illinois last year and actually moved to austin. Ever since leaving the state...Our lives have improved much better.. I just bought a house, my business is doing great, and everyone around us is actually happy where they live.. Its a weird feeling.. One thing I don't miss are the high gas prices...my friend just told me that gas is 3.50 a gallon right now in chicago, OUCH... We are paying 2.25...

I've lived in Springfield, IL all my life except for 2 1/2 years in Charleston, IL. My only complaint about Springfield is the cold and the flat land and corn fields can get a little boring at times, but you're going to have that anywhere in Central Illinois.

I'd love to live in Austin.

Except in Peoria. This is roughly 90 miles NW of Springfield. Peoria is situated on the Illinois River, among tall cliffs and at least 15 high rolling hills. You can hop on a stern wheel paddleboat and take a river cruise for a week. There are several things you can do in Peoria that you cannot do in Springfield. The opposite is just as true.

True, Peoria is more scenic. It has more of a big city feel than Springfield. Petersburg is somewhat scenic, and in Carpenter park (near Springfield) you can almost imagine that you are in Southern Illinois.

Agreed, chug 1, Illinois has some spectacular scenery. IL 29 to IL 26 follows the course of the Illinois River for many miles. It too has beautiful panoramas to enjoy. .
