Post Illinois Unemployment Question

In the state of Illinois what is the minimum amount of time that you have to work for an employer to qualify for unemployment if they fire you?

Do you mean laid off or fired with cause? If fired for cause, then you probably won't qualify. I believe to qualify you have to have made at least $800 in each of the last 4 quarters.

I am an account manager for a company and have been there for a little over 60 days and due to fault not of my own I can't get our credit delinquency percentages within company standards, so I am facing a very good possibility of losing my job because of this. Is there a minimum amount of time in Illinois that I have to work for an employer to claim unemployment if fired?

If fired = no unemployment.

If laid off, I think you generally have to have been in full time employment for at least six months.

I got fired twice and got unemployment. There is such a thing as unlawful or wrongful discharge. Both of those times I got denied at first, but I appealed and won. Just be prepared to do without a check for a few weeks to a couple of months.

"Can I be disqualified?

You MAY BE disqualified from receiving benefits because you:

1) quit your job
2) were discharged for misconduct
3) refused suitable new employment
4) were involved in an ongoing labor dispute, or
5) you return to work.

There are other disqualifications, as well."

Why rely on posting on a message board to get answers from people that may be well intentioned, but may not necessarily know what they are talking about?

Go straight to the horse's mouth:

Cool. Did you get the employer on a wrongful termination suit? That would have been a double bonus.

The only time you can file a credible charge is proof of discrimination based on race, sex, sexual orientation, naitonality, or harrassement/retailiation. Remember, IL is an at-will employment state. As such, employer can fire you for any reason at any time, except for the above reasons.
