I left Indiana in September 2007 headed for Iraq. I was there for 8 months and returned to Otwell for about a month before relocating to Alaska in July 2008. In that time I have realized that I miss the Hoosier State. I miss corn fields, the sound of crickets, thunderstorms, the smell after a good spring rain. I miss the amount of sunshine and the varying temperatures in Indiana. I miss the 4 seasons and the shorter winters. I miss White Castle, Cheesburger in Paradise and olive Garden. I miss being able to drive to Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee etc if I have the urge. I miss the small town atmosphere, where everyone knows everyone and are willing to help others out. I miss the slower pace of life that seems to go along with the small towns. Basically I just miss home even though I couldn't wait to get out of there. I spent 12 years of my life there and hope to spend many more there.

We retired and moved south for the weather. Loved the weather but not enough to overcome how much we loved living in Hoosierland. Moved back after three years.
I am not a native but have spent my adulthood here and love being back.
Thank you for your service.

Doug, I hope your stay away isn't too much longer. Thank you so much for your service `

I am a CA native but have been in IN for 10 years. Last year when I went west for a vacation we were trapped in the Dallas airport coming home because of weather....it was a real nightmare. We had to take several planes and somehow ended up in Detroit 48 hours later - not IN but at least we were close! I was never so glad to get back to the midwest....people were nice, they looked you in the eye, and there was just a nice, easy-going way that made me feel at ease and I rally needed that. When we finally got back down to Indy (only to head back UP to Fort Wayne) , I was never so happy to see wide opened spaces - no traffic, and corn fields. I never thought I'd say that....but I have really come to love Indiana.

The only people in America who hate Indiana are Hoosiers themsleves. They have no idea how good they have it. I moved out and went to MI in 1999. Michigan is TERRIBLE for many reasons. Then I moved to Arizona in 2006 (job) where I know live and am unemployed. Arizona is......OK. Not wild about it. When I grew up in Indiana I was one of those people who hated it. After living in MI and AZ, I miss it and hopefully will return one of these days. The 6.4 million Hoosiers underestimate their state and need to start appreciating it.
