Not unexpected.

Congratulations, Minnesota.

No biggie. Indy lost its first bid to Dallas. Another one will come, but it may be awhile.

I guess they're following the new stadium policy. Build a new stadium, get a Super Bowl. Maybe Indy should build a new one. The old ones don't need to be paid off before we blow them up, right?

Definitely. Before it was Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, New York, Dallas, now coming up San Francisco in 2016 and Minneapolis in 2018. Many think Atlanta will get 2019 because they'll have a new $1 billion stadium. Minneapolis got it without giving the NFL and players any tax breaks, too, which is interesting. New Orleans and Indianapolis were more than willing to give out tax breaks.

Yes, congrats to Minny. It's been at least 5 years since the last time I've been up there. Well, at least it's back in the Midwest again.

Apparently, anymore, the rule of thumb is, if a NFL city has a new stadium to show off, the NFL will reward the city with a Super Bowl as a way to say "Thanks" to the taxpayers for building the owners a brand new football stadium.

Listening to Mike & Mike this morning, they think Jim Irsay's recent issues hurt our chances. I've heard other analysts say the same.

Maybe, but the competition was also very tough.

I don't think Indy is getting the SB again for a long long time.

First, any city that builds a new stadium is basically guaranteed one at this point if they want it. You'll have Atlanta get another one when they build a new stadium. If the Chargers ever upgrade from that tenement they play in, San Diego will get back into the regular rotation.

Then you have all of the cities that are a permanent part of the rotation because of their location/weather: Miami, New Orleans, Arizona, Tampa, etc. Dallas will be automatic for another one at some point.

Finally, I think you will see big market cities make a push for it in the future since the New York one was pretty successful. I won't be surprised at all if a city like Chicago, DC, Boston/New England, Philly, etc makes a push for it. It would be difficult for the NFL to tell a Chicago no if they put a nice bid together.

It's just going to be hard for Indianapolis to find a way to overcome all of that, especially since they don't have the new stadium card anymore. Also, while Lucas Oil Stadium might seem big to us, it's the third smallest stadium in the NFL. Chicago and Oakland are the only stadiums with less seating capacity. The NFL can sell thousands and thousands of more tickets in other venues.

I'd be pretty surprised if Indy got another one within the next 15 years.
